Hi Thanks for the information regarding the kit, my problem remains unsolved. I have seen three year guarenteed units that have been rebuilt from sites I.E. ecutesting.com and Remann. They quote 2 to 3 days and £350 cost. I am not sure how much it costs the take the ABS pump off and on as yet. Can you tell me where I can find information on the £150 kit you mention. I have looked through the forum and cant spot the infor anywhere ? I love my Touran but feel this problem should be fixed as it is a brake issue. I have read many many forums on this problem and have learned that the ABS unit itself is still working (I have tested mine and it is) the ESP is attached to the pump and cannot be replaced without changing the whole ABS pump. and apparently the fault lies with the manufacture as the faulty units were manufactured in a humid country where condesation got into the units when being made. whether this is true or not I am not sure apparently it also affects Golf, Seat Leon,Altea and Toledo Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia cars.......... Anyway any info on the 150 quid kits will be gratefully recieved, thanks for your time in advance !!! Cheers

Just to add to your list, also include BMW 1 series and Honda CRVs.

The only difference is BMW did a full recall, and Honda fix it for free no questions asked!

My 06 Touran with less than 37000 miles on the clock developed the dreaded fault a few months ago. Couldn't afford the £1500 or so to fix it so just left it. Decided to sell the car & take the work into account in the price. I dont know why I didnt do it before but sent of an email to VW customer services asking what they were prepared to do about this known fault. That was two weeks ago,on Monday we were literally about to sighn the deal to sell the car at a reduced price, when I took a call from VW, If I took the car to a VW dealer & payed £60 for a diagnostic they would, as a good will gesture contribute 100%....car being fixed today, sold for significantly more this afternoon....result:j
VW also told me they were now fixing cars up to 72 months old with a VW fsh ( mine was from a seat dealer- part of VW group)

it is not £1500 to repair now,VW have released a repair kit for £150 to address the issue, plus some labour to remove and refit the ABS pump.

I had a quote of £1500 at the end of last year, had a diagnostic done at the beginning of May and was quoted £1071....no mention of repair kit, or that VW might contribute ( this from an Arnold Clark dealership) sent off an email to VW customer services & 100% repair offered. The garage who did the repair had trouble finding the repair kit, as they are in such demand, so VW authorised the purchase of a new module.
While like all these things, if you know the right people you wont get ripped off, I just thought it was worth pointing out to people that VW will come across with the cash....much to my surprise!:)

Well I had no idea until I googled this, this morning, I too have a 56 Plate Touran, Purchased from a chain who hold a VW franchise (Arnold Clark) the car is 4 and a half years old with just over 48K on the clock and a full VW dealer service record. I contacted VW UK this morning.
I have now been assigned a case manager and a case reference.
I am now waiting for a call to see what they can do for me.
Here's hoping but will keep you posted.

Joined the ESP warning light club:mad:. We contacted VW today and have been booked in for free 15 min check next week. They will contact us if there are any further "costs" but called our original dealer who mentioned VW goodwill. 55 plate Touran with 55k on the clock - we have had the car about 5 yrs and love it except for a few dents in door frame (seat belt buckle not returning before door closed) and an expensive non VW service including replacement of cracked front-suspension brackets earlier this year. Oh.. and little sun-tan cream hand-prints I can't remove! - next installment to follow.

I wonder if one company makes these abs blocks as mine went on my 207 GT last week and again seems a common fault.

At first they wanted to charge me £1100 but after I told them I was aware this was a common fault they phoned back and said pug would pay for the part.

I believe it's a Bosch made unit. As well as the VAG group, Honda, and BMW used these units.

Honda will replace the unit if it fails no questions asked, and BMW did a full recall of their One series car to replace this unit. As for VW......well!

Interesting! Worked until 3 years ago for company who ran Passats and Tourans as company cars. The Tourans all developed this fault and all were fixed for free. The Passats, including my one, all had fuel pump failiures at 60k which were also fixed for free.

It is my opinion that VAG group are paranoid about recalls. They did issue one on the Passat for a software upgrade. But the fuel pump fault was so widespread that at one stage there was a worldwide shortage of fuel pumps. I had six weeks in a loan car waiting for the the part to arrive. No recall for it though.

VW dealers are normally quite reasonable about fixing known faults for a small price, but it seems that the manufacturer would rather accept the costs of fixing known faults for nothing or for a small price than do the honest thing and issue a recall.
