Lead free solder in electronic unit, dries out and joints snap.
To be honest, if the Clutch works, your on borrowed time anyway.
    Be happy...;)

Very disappointed, hoped we wouldn't have all this hassle off Vw

Don't feel bad, TENS OF THOUSANDS of UK car buyers make the same mistake every year, eventually everyone will learn that VW/Audi vehicles are pretty poor, it's taking longer than it should for word to get around though.
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!

My wife's 55 plate Touran failed it's mot for the ESP light, which we've lived with for three years. (fault code 01435...) By coincidence my Passat CC was in for a service, and I mentioned my wifes Touran to the service desk. They booked the car in, and it's going to be fixed tomorrow, at no cost to myself. The car has 110k on the clock, FSH, but no VAG services in four years... Am I happy with that - happy enough to order another CC!

    but drives perfectly.

Its been on for about 6 months and i've done bout 40k in it

  • Interesting thread and now I have the problem as well. I have a left hand drive (I spend a lot of time in Spain) Touran with 208k km on the clock. I got this car as a personal import in the UK originally on a 53 plate so the warranty claims are not applicable and whilst I'm pleased many people can get their cars done under warranty I'm looking for a bit of clear advice for those of us who can't.

I love the car, which has been fabulous, and want to get it repaired but I have been quoted the usual astronomical cost €1700 or £1500. I therefore have a couple of questions.

I'm looking at getting a local garage in Herts to remove the unit and have it refurbished at ECU Testing but the mechanic says they are a so and so to remove. Is that true?

Secondly, does anyone know if this repair kit is available for this model and if so can it be used by non VW garages?
  • I'm having the same problem, the ESP light stays on after ignition, but there is also a problem with the Optical Parking System. It's a 10 plate, 1.9TDi match spec with a shade over 50k on the clock.

I've got to phone the dealer tomorrow to see what I can get done, but it's useful to know that this seems to be a common problem. I have also tweeted @VWUKHelp just to see if they can get a cheaper solution for me.

    Cheers

I'm familiar with the Octavia rather than the VW versions but I wouldn't have thought a 10 plate car would have an issue with the Teves Mk60 unit as the problem was common on older models around 05-07 but meant to be fixed on newer ones. Is it just the traction control light that's coming on? You'll need a fault scan done first to see what's the source of the problem.
