I think that's why you'll find that the dealer is doing a 50% warrenty on it. It doesnt warrant a complete recall because the fault is minor and doesn't affect all models (there are different units fitted to different Tourans).

I did suggest an on-going problem may the way to claim the other 50% from the dealer too...?

any fault with brakes should be recalled,if they have had to modify the failing parts then they are admitting fault on thier part.
surely a wonderful institution like vw have some kind of serial number system so they can keep track of what parts are fitted to which vehicle and when. like every other manufacturer.

  • Hi

I have the same problem with my Touran 1.9TDi - also just over 3yrs old but only 14000 miles. Not happy with quote of £1300 from VW dealer.

What have you decided to do with yours? Is there any way that maybe a group of us with this problem could try to force VW to do something about it. Maybe contact Watchdog? Surely it should be fixed for free under a recall. After all we've all paid a lot of money for the reassurance of VW "quality" and I for one am not impressed.

PS. Was very happy with the car until this problem but would never buy another VW again now.
  • Fit a 2nd hand unit, as above...

the reassurance was only for 3 years though.

If you've maintained the car with VW and it's only just over 3years Im sure you will get it fully covered by warrenty. Try the dealer again, and speak to the Service manager.

It cant be covered by a recall, as not all units are affected and you only know which ones are affected when they go wrong. You will get your VW reassurance, and the quality is there, but please dont fit a 2nd hand one though. It's potentially the same problem again 5miles down the road...

  • I have also got a problem/fault with my ESP with the dealer saying that the cost is £1018 plus labour. The car is March 05 with 61000 miles. So just out of waranty. I have managed to get the cost down to £750. On talking to one of the tecnical lads he said that they have had a lot of these problems. I feel that I should not have to pay that sort of money out for a 3 1/2 year old car.
Has anyone got any other ideas?
    Thanks.
