  • Hi

Just wanted to say a great big thanks to Mum of 4 for the planting plans they are great and I can't wait to get started. I think I will expand on my basics of salad, toms and beans with my aim to growing potatoes, onions, garlic, peas, asparagus (asparagus - tried crowns before but not successfully, got seeds now but they will take ages) and then raspberries, strawberries, blueberries (bit of a berry girl), gooseberries, rhubarb and apples (with raspberries being the new addition this year). Also have a cherry and a plum tree (victoria) but they never do well.

I am still somewhat behind on the list (I read it offline on my pda at night when I can't sleep), I am only on page 25 so I will catch up with you later.

    Thanks again

to add in more figures.... I got a 25Kg sack from a farm shop for £5.50 (prices round here varied from £5.50-£7)..

for me it isn't worth it... whether in the ground or pots - takes up so much space... I am thinking I may do a bag or two of new potatoes (as the kids love digging them up!) and a bag for christmas - we then get the taste and satisfaction of a few homegrown without the loss of space.....

I would love to be able to buy spuds from a farm shop, Can't seem to find one. Hicks gate only sell meat. So if anuone can suggest one within 5 miles of brislington/whitchurch area that would be welcome. I would of thought that there should be one as a mile drive heads to countryside. I get my chicken feed from Warmly so you'd think I could find one somewhere in the area.

I'm with you yategirl new spuds only. If I get my first crop in April at least I'll be producing almost 6 months worth.

Are there any near nibley bird farm that I'm likely to pass or should look out for.
    Kind Regards
    Maz

I really would not advise you growing either of these. I tried the sweetcorn this year and was not impressed at all. Go for a better one, the crop takes up a large amount of space and time.

Thanks for that, did buy the sweetcorn but will look at a better variety as well (haven't decided how much space to allocate to each veg quite yet, still sorting out the drainage and the beds lol).
Didn't buy the moneymaker toms, just spotted them, as had some left from last year, which like you say were alright, but not that much different to the shop bought. Looking for some more unusual varieties to add this year, any you would recommend to try?

  • hello all!

well due to nasty weather and it being windy my new plastic greenhouse is still residing behind the sofa!!

but i have been really good and went out yesterday (even though it rained) and gave various things 'haircuts', dug up the huge bramble and dug up a load of lilac suckers. i also did loads of weeding and dug over a patch for flowers.

i asked for manure on freecycle earlier this week and got an excellent response - now i just have to find some sacks to collect it in!

also from freecycle another lady has given me three rosebushes, some peonies and some lilly of the valley.

i know that this is not about the 12 month planting plan but i am so pleased about it all that i thought i should let you guys know :o

also, because this frees up some money i will have more to spend on my veggie stuff!!!!

hope everyone has a good weekend!

this year am going to go through all of my seeds BEFORE i go to get compost and stuff so that i don't duplicate on what i already have!!!

    loki x
it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:
