I do like betterlife, my first chair came from them and they were great
I now have this chair which I really like, I needed a 16" seat as my previous one didn't give me enough support, and it's generally built for more regular use than my first.
I think you're a daily chair user Oscar? As Danni's only looking for one for occasional days and the abuse your chair has to put up with very much varies with how often you use it..0 -
Wow, thanks everyone
I'd been looking at the Betterlife ones, but it's good to hear that they've got good customer service, and that the first chair is comfortable.
I think I'll contact the Red Cross first, see what they say, but it's good to know there's a cheap one I can fall back on if they can't help. I remember my mum got one from them, but it wasn't self propelling and since I have to be in control, that wouldn't be good for me (plus my partner lacks strength himself and needs me to help him push me up hills- I borrowed a wheelchair on a recent holiday so know it helps a lot).
On another note, what cushion should I get with it- vinyl or canvas?Purple Penguin Power!

You're welcome Danni.
Invasion is right, in that I'm either using my stick round the house or in a wheelchair/scooter when out and about (I can walk, but I'm even better at falling over). For the occasional use you are talking about, the first one should be ok. All the chairs from Betterlife come with a 12 month warranty and their customer service was good. I agree, however, that you're best borrowing to see if you can find something you like.
I find that if I have a cushion in when I'm on "self propel" rather than "Mrs Grouch Propel" mode, the angle is all wrong. Red Cross will quite happily loan you a vinyl cushion too, so see how you get on with it before spending any money. In the beginning, the universe was created. Good morning all
It's a fine and sunny day, so Mrs Grouch and I are going out for a walk... well.... Mrs Grouch will be walking and I will be using The Trolly (my mobility scooter).
Before that, I am installing my free copy of the game "Portal" (as shown in the Freebies board HERE) which I shall be playing later. I've played it before, but as it's free, I'll quite happily play it again on the not so nice days!
Hope everyone's having fun.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Portal is an awesome game
I bought it ages ago so couldn't get it free (bought it from Steam) but I've had tons of fun with it. My previous flatmate was less amused, as I had a slight obsession with GlaDOS and would play all the sound files constantly.
I won't be going out anywhere today, as yesterday I went to Taybarns to celebrate a friend passing his articulated lorry driving test, and it was so overwhelming I'm still exhausted now, though I've had plenty of sleep. I think today will be a day of telling my partner what housework I want him to do, as I don't particularly want to try doing it lying down.Purple Penguin Power!

Anyone else having trouble with raging hayfever symptoms today? The pollen count is low, so all I can reasonably conclude is that this has to do with the latest ash-burp from Eyjafjallajökull. Dammit, volcano, why won't you quit it!?
So, yeah, my eyes are itching and streaming and I can't stop sneezing. ARGH.Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Do you need more?0 -
My hay fever is not too bad at the moment
My back though is agony, not helped by doing a boot sale this morning.....£108.55 in profit makes it feel a little better though! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Hello folks
Wow, I disappear for a couple of days and there's pages to catch up with!:D
CwtA big, gentle (((HUG))) glandular fever is nasty.:(
SingleSue I don't know if it'd be a thought for your eldest lad, but one of my sticks came from a craft show - it's a coppiced hazel shaft, and a genuine antler, complete with 2 tines, for the top. It's extremely distinctive, and raises much admiration. I wouldn't want NHS bog-standard issue, either.:o

Nice profit, Sue!
Am amused by finding a video with my choir rehearsing that I haven't actually seen before... I forgot it had even been taken! Ah, fibro fog... Anyway, it's here if anyone wants to see/hear.I'm the alto in the orange hat, right at the back.

The choir sounds good as well.
