I suppose in a way, I also don't want to admit to myself that I am not getting any better (or younger!) and I am not quite as indestructable as I thought I was...it's almost like admitting a weakness, so I find ways around it to manage.

I was like that with the wheelchair, and even now, I try not to use it as much as possible, because it is sort of facing up to the health problems and acknowledging that you need help. I think that's the hardest part - being so independent, then having to rely on others :(

We went for a walk not so long back, and my two friends were taking it in turns to push me up the hills and it made me feel really bad. Of curse, they were adamant that they didn't mind, but I did :o:(

Gawd, this growing old lark isn't all it's cracked up to be is it? :rotfl:

    I know!

I dread to think what I will be like in 10 years time, although I have warned DDs that I will be having little accidents on their carpets when they have their own homes, to pay back for all the little accidents they had when they first came out of nappies :D:rotfl:

Hehe! Now that is a way to get back at them....

Right just back from physio where we gained not one referral but two! So we went from 3 (she changed her mind about one specialist) down to 2 and now to 4.

He's now got to see a hand specialist and a shoulder specialist...apparently his shoulder is clicking in and out and not quite settling where it should be.

Think this is going to be the year of the hospital, although it confuzzles the life out of them as they are used to seeing me with the two youngest and not the eldest son.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Haha, no worries Jaz, I may even take pictures for you all :p may take a couple of weeks to get here, am a bit too excited I think, have recently re-discovered a love for hot pink, so hoping they're brighter than in the pic..

Have hot pink bottom sheet, and back pillows, and cushions, and turquoise duvet cover and front pillows. LOVE THEM. Oh, and my new bed, I got a less dense memory foam topper this time, and I love the squishyness, and cos it's only a 2" one it's not as hot, or as difficult to move, plus cos the shape is a little wrong (apparently it was cut when cold, and it shrinks in the cold so they can't tell what size it is... already had to send one back as it was completely unusable!) I got £20 off! Making it a giant bargain of like £50 something pounds for a double! MY bed is my nest.

LW, we had gerbils once, 3 of them, mum managed to pull (accidentally!) half the tail off one as she tried to stop it going under the video recorder! I don't know why that's relevant! They were called toffee, fudge and liquorice. Cuteness.

Also, Pipkin, it does get better, or at least it has for me, most of the time I'm ok with my wheelchair, it's been better since I got my new one, more comfy, easier to steer- for both me and mum with handles- nicer colour, spent over £100 on a new cushion recently, which my autogenic training practitioner thought was a big step in acceptance. I still have bad days where I want to cry because of it (and do! Last time was in new look! I felt like I was in the way, and just rubbishy) it just takes time getting used to using it, and seeing it as something that helps you be more independent, rather than something taking away your independence x
  • lw You can be my Gerbil
So long as you don't poo on the carpets. :D

I don't know if anyone remembers, but I was fighting with my local council over a parking issue. The company I work for shares a building with them, and they had decided not to allow parking for contractors after they'd moved in December. My employer put in a request for one parking space for me under the DDA, but it was turned down.

I wrote a long letter of appeal, outlining their Equality Policy, and what an impact it would have on me not being able to park near the building and my ability to work.

I heard today my appeal was successful and I will be able to park. :D Yay!
