As far as the DLA goes, the general guideline with fibromyalgia is that if you are in pain all the time, you should qualify for HRM under the "severe discomfort" rule. I do. Sounds like they're giving you a far harder time than you deserve.

That would be nice. I wish they had standards for certain conditions - as in if you have such and such a condition, and you meet the care/mobility needs, you should get it. I have written severe discomfort all over it.

Well, I guess that IS supposed to be what happens - just for some reason it hasn't for me!

I don't think working should come into it at all. There is no law disabled people can't work. Do they want me to stop trying and sign on to benefits all my life? As long as your job doesn't directly contradict your condition, like you say you struggle to walk but are a dancer or a heavy lifter then obviously they have a case!

I think them asking your mum questions without your permission was out of line to be honest... It's you that knows your condition best!

Also, re the stick slipping, I have the same trouble with my crutches, I did find theeeese... haven't yet bought any, as it was going to work out at around £25? I really should get some though, I've had so many near misses!

Yes, I think so too! It just so happens my mum and I are very close and she knows everything, but they don't know that! We might not get on, she might not know anything about my condition - they don't know! How come the data protection act didn't apply? I was actually very cross. They should be asking me about my condition, as you say!

Thanks for the link! Blimey, that's more than some walking sticks cost!!

Will have to see if I can get some a bit cheaper. ;)

Aw, hello - nice to see you! Sorry you aren't feeling great.

Happy New Year to you too! And to everyone else! I kind of hate New Year, so don't really get into the festivities - but wanted to wish you all it anyway!

    They are sweet!!

jennihen You are only the second person I have come across with MCTD. I used to email someone who had it, but lost contact with them through my own fault which I regret. Rheumi keeps telling me how rare it is - in the tone of voicve that says I shouldn't have it
As a consequence I get confuduzzled about what it down to this and what isn't and end up saving things to talk to him about things I should see GP about.

I'm not very talkative at the mopment, but have been lurking. Am desperate for a decent sleep not interrupted by night sweats. The daytime hot sweats are abating slightly, but the night sweats are worse. Also have a lot of pain at the momentso not done much at all. Haven't even been doing my beloved knitting as hands are too painful.
Frustration of wanting to do things vs body being able to do things is getting to me but it will pass.

    Hugs to all.

*snarls and grabs for caffeinated beverages* I spent the entire night hacking up a lung. I was coughing so hard, even with regular sips of water, that I woke my cousin up twice, and he's a notoriously heavy sleeper.

Body. This is NOT ON, do you hear me? *growl*

Don't know if this will help but I have Lupus/ MCTD/fibro but my sis told me she also had incredible jaw pain and was advised to stop drinking any thing with caffeine. I stopped all caffiene and my jaw pain has gone. Other pain is still there - fingers, elbows, knees, feet and chest but the jaw pain has gone.
    Bit tipsy - but sincere

I had given up caffeine altogether but started to drink tea and whilst everyone has been home I have had a cuppa every time someone made on. Probably 10 or more mugs a day!

I will go back to caffeine free right now. I would rather be sleepy than have extra pain.

Re the slipping Invasion, I was about to start looking for crampons for my shoes. Thanks for the link. Maybe I need extra crampons.:)

  • I drink loads of tea - coffee can make me a little neauseous so at most I will have one cup a day for a little boost. I had hoped that drinks like Red Bull might perk me up, but the only they perk up is my digestive system. They go straight through me!

Have had a painful couple of day relating to mobility. Not to bad today but everything is tired so I'm sitting on the sofa for the rest of the day and will try to do some kntting if hands will take it.

Had not planned to buy anything in sales but found a kettle with an open handle that I can grip with both hands which is obviously far safer than the old one which I had trouble lifting. Quite expensive (£29) but worth it I think for comfort and safety.

    Oh dear, am fatigued.
