Awww, I think that's sweet!:D Look at it this way - with most men, it wouldn't even enter their heads!

Good luck with this; I think I'm right in saying it's more easily reversible than the female equivalent? Will keep paws crossed for you.

and crutches are fab for other people's houses (I know which things I can grab onto, and where they are in my own house ;)) I'll get there though, just annoying, stupid rebellious legs! ;)
Ah, yes - on a good day, I can manage with one stick indoors, because it's a tiny bungalow and there's things to grab hold of every step of the way. In other peoples' houses I always use both sticks.

People, as the forum is going to be down from 14:00 today, this is probably a good time to let you know I probably won't be online next week. Mr LW is using up some leave, so we'll be having days out, and the PC is a mite too big to take with me!:D Just didn't want you all thinking I'd fallen off the planet,:D

Unfortunately they wont refer you for a reversal anymore, only way we could get that would be if we went private, and that is rather expensive :( So will probably mean some sort of IVF treatment (says she who hates needles!!!!!)

Thank you LW. I'm also hoping it's not going to set me back, I know pregnancy can be tiring for a normal person, some people find it helps them, some don't. Hoping I fall into the first category :D And then roll on sleepless nights!! lol

Hope Mollydog is having lots of fun (sorry if I've got wrong person, brain is very tired after 3 nights going to bed after 11pm!!) thank god it's friday :)

Trying to get into college was difficult when I was on crutches as the entrance has loads of tree's around it!!! So lots of leaves, had to take very tiny steps to make sure I didn't slip and managed it ok :)
I know that feeling dude. I was doing that the other night...in the dark. It's EXHAUSTING.

That sucks! Surely IVF is more of a cost-drain on the NHS than the reversal?? Hope you get it sorted.:o

Just ordered a new walking stick from glamsticks.com. It's the new foldable stick that is on there, in multi-coloured diamante. Am very excited! Hope it's as nice as it looks on the website. A picture of it isn't actually up yet, but been told it looks like the sparkly cane one.

    Evening, everyone!

Got a letter from DD2's Assistant Headteacher, addressed to MISS Tightfisted, 92 x Road, XXXXX ESTATE, XX2 8XX (interesting how she assumed my title and what part of the catchment area I live in, putting that in rather than the correct postal address)

I quote: 'Since October, your child has been late for school three times. This is unacceptable. Absent pupils disrupt classes and do not succeed in life. If this happens again, we will contact the Education Welfare Officer.'

I've been having a few - OK - A LOT - of bad days recently.

So I have prepared a reply, something along the following lines (you may spot the tiny alterations protecting the identity of the not so innocent):

    Dear Mrs OldBagWhoDoesn'tActuallyLikeChildren,

Thank you for your kind letter. I note the comments therein.

I have Sero Positive Rheumatoid Arthritis, Joint Hypermobility Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. RA in particular, is a long term degenerative condition which causes pain, deformity and a broad spectrum of other problems. The condition is particularly bad in colder weather, such as that commonly experienced in Autumn.

As such, I have been a little slower in reaching the school gates in the morning, despite having left earlier.

I would ordinarily use a stick to assist me, but, unfortunately, due to the lack of reasonable adjustments for disabled access at the school, this is impossible.

In respect of the three occasions you refer to, I have attempted to enter the school grounds on time with my daughter, but, as a result of the ridiculous situation of closing off all but one entrance to the school, the 750 or so parents, children and siblings in buggies swarming through a gateway into an alleyway four foot wide, I have been barged, trapped and on one occasion, knocked flying. The crowd of parents smoking directly outside this gate does not assist greatly, either, as they narrow the pavement outside.

My daughter has tried to ensure that I am unhurt and has ran up the 4 flights of stairs to her classroom - before the doors have closed, only to find that she is 78 seconds late and has to return to the Office to sign in. This takes at least 7 minutes, due to the rule stating she must wait at the security intercom for all the parents to leave before being allowed into the Office. Of course, sitting down quietly 78 seconds into the day is so much more disruptive than a ten minute round trip.

As the probability of a miracle cure is somewhat low in the foreseeable future, I therefore expect to hear from the Education Welfare Officer by the end of next week. I shall be delighted to hear her suggestions as to how I can reduce the obvious harm I am causing my daughter's education by her having 100% attendance for the last 5 years (her only time off since Nursery has been to attend Grandparents' funerals) and approximately 4 minutes of lateness during the period. I would have discussed this matter with you last week, but apparently you were off sick again.

Nevertheless, I am sure that the intervening period will allow you the time to seek advice regarding the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, with particular reference to the crush hazard at the entrance, the non existent access to the KS1 classrooms up the concrete stairs in the playground (with the only ramp enclosed within the Nursery play area), and the only access to the office being via an uneven set of steps and two sets of heavy doors. The PTA will no doubt be delighted to assist with addressing these problems, as they announced this week that they have reached their fundraising target for a new minibus.

Alternatively, we could consider that, in the light of the tardiness in teachers releasing the children from class in the afternoon, keeping disabled parents standing in all weathers and that it is ultimately the school's failure to make reasonable adjustments for access that has led to such a shocking level of absenteeism, that the matter is permanently closed.

    Yours sincerely
