  • The items in the order aren't of very high value, but yes I could split it into a couple of orders and still have free delivery on it all as Bossyboots says.

I'm not really in a hurry for the items and as I'm not charged until they are sent I decided just to leave it as one order. In the past, even with super saver delivery I've had items sent earlier at no extra cost, so it didn't seem worth canceling and reordering again.

I'm very curious to see if this works though, so tried it lastnight. I've just checked and the order has now been split in two, which hadn't until I tried what's mentioned in this post.

The first part of the order now states a deliver estimate of 13 Dec 2005 - 19 Dec 2005, which is a big improvement on the previous date.

The second gives an estimate of 15 Dec 2005 - 26 Dec 2005 (this order won't be here in time for Christmas). I guess it might going by the dates, but it's just to cover themselves.

Of course this isn't the same as saving £42 in postage, not that I'd wanted to do this in the first place.. I was just quoting the very high amount mentioned on the order page.

Interesting test this, but I'm not sure if it proves it either way in my case.. atleast until my invoice comes.

I'll certainly post when my order arrives.. and again, thanks for the tip :)

Hey Bossyboots now MR_Gordson has posted I unnderstand what you mean, its quite a good idea. Just remember some things may not go over £19 if you did it like that, but usually unlikely.

Mr_Gordon remember that esitmate is for supersaver, if you look at my first screenshot my estimate was from the 9th-13th, and I was suprised recieve it the next day, do remember its first class so it can take upto 2 days.

Thank you MR_Gordon for actually posting your results I didn't know if this was a bug or not.

And thankyou everyone else for the lengthy discussion, all your points have been relevant, if you did use this method, I hope your order comes in time for xmas. :)

I haven't used this formula, but ordered with normal free delivery last week. Both items in stock and email said goods arrival estimate is 12 Dec 2005 - 14 Dec 2005. They came two days after order and obviously well before the 12th? Maybe they are just being very quick with everything this year.

I have ordered goods on one day with Super Saver and received them the next. I have never had bad service with Super Saver. Never been any need to make any changes to the order or similar.

Also, I thought all goods had to be dispatched in one go. However, my last order of 3 products on Super Saver came along in 2 deliveries, as one product wasn't yet in stock and came a couple of days later. A big thumbs up for the Super Saver service!
  • Is your invoice like screenshot 2 with that sentance highlighted in red?

That way we can know if there is a bug, or just a mistake on my behalf.
  • Has anyone ever tried ordering two of the same item or another item to put the spend over £19 and therefore qualify for free delivery, and then return one of the items. If they have, have Amazon ever contacted the buyer to request payment of the delivery charge that would have been due had only the kept item been ordered.

A minor correction, but free delivery is on orders over £15 (they changed it recently).

They tend to give free delivery if it's a couple of pence under.

If it's books you are after, I would suggest trying Tesco instead as they have a code for free delivery posted on their homepage and in my experience are usually quite a bit cheaper than amazon.
