I'm trying to teach myself to make cards at the moment and I'm not very good at it.Think of a four year old let loose with some glue and paper. Troo and Penny, I know you make cards, have you any recommendations for online or offline suppliers of bits and pieces. I've got lots of card, paper, tissue etc but it's toppers and gems that I'm a bit short of. There aren't many shops that sell them here and those that do seem very expensive.
When I first starting making cards, I used Ebay an awful lot as you can buy in small quantities and not have to spend an awful amount. One tip I would give - if you find something you like, make sure you click on their 'shop' or 'find other items by this seller' as often people will discount postage if you buy multiple items from them.
Also childs craft kits in places like 'Bastins' or 'Smiths' etc can be very good value and can be used by we grown ups!!
I love to make cards and I do sell a few.
Good luck honey!

Twink, am pleased to hear you're a library user - that service is part of my division at work & it's so sad to see the borrower numbers dropping. You'd think more people would use them, but books can be so cheap in the supermarkets now that I often throw them in with my shopping
.
have used the library since the children were small and they all enjoy reading now, maybe the books are cheap in the supermarkets but they are free in the library, here in Moray we have a high number of borrowers and have lots of other services that go with the library, we are also online too so i can request and renew loans on the computer and find out which new books have come in, our library is open all day saturday and till 8pm weekdays0 -
Sticking my nose tentatively back round the door to suggest to Betheebee Apple Wine. The recipe I've used before is:
8 lb apples - the whole thing, peel, core, the lot, just cut out any bad bits and chop 'em up
1 gallon cold water
3 lb sugar
1/2 (half) oz yeast
Put all except sugar in a bucket, cover, leave for 4 days. Strain and squeeze, put juice back into bucket, add sugar, cover, leave for about a week. Strain again, into demijohns this time, and proceed as normal (there's bound to be winemaking "destructions" on the boards somewhere.)
CAUTION: this wine is supposed to have aphrodisiac qualities.
I hope this is OS enough for me to put a personal bit? Not posted for a couple of days because I lost my nerve. Struggling to do ANYTHING, let alone OS at present as I am in the grip of a seriously black depression. Messages of encouragement/kicks up the bum welcomed. If it's a kick, please make it a gentle one.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Afternoon everyone
Afraid there's not much OS going on here today...made the bed, put a load of washing in and been making lists ready for Christmas...which will probably get lost or re-done a few times yet!
Popping to DD2's later to watch 3 of my GS's while she takes GD to her ballet class...just until SIL gets in from work.
Long days for me at the moment...gave up work a month ago and hubby is out until late harvesting the potatoes. I really should be de-cluttering with all the spare time I have now...but the less I have to do...the less I get done...does that sound silly?!
BTW...anyone looking for crafty bits for cards etc. should have a look at EBid as well....some very reasonable prices. I've had some bits myself and have been very pleased with them.
Anyway...have a lovely rest of the day...take care
and a hug for LameWolf...I get times like that too...pm me if you need a chat xA family that eats together, stays together

Hi Lame Wolf
Thanks for the apple wine recipe, I have the apples, but the only yeast I have is for bread making - stupid question, but is it the same thingNoted the comments about it being and aphrodisiac, so get DH some extra Shredded Wheat
Gentle kick for you, depression is a horrible thing, but don't stop posting just because a few people had a bit of a moanYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Hi everyone - mind if I drop in too? You are all really quite inspiring. I feel rather like a slob today (I do a lot lately) as being preggie at the mo is leaving me sickly and so tired that I'm not getting a great deal done bar playing with DD (2). So, shamefully, all I have done today is:
Put dehumidifier on upstairs for an hour
Opened windows and made beds
Made breakie and lunch
Am about to put washer on a hot wash with vinegar to clean it out
We have eaten
Breakfast - Pancakes with banana, a beaker of milk for DD and hot water with lemon for me
Lunch - Wraps filled with sweetcorn, sliced peppers, diced carrot and a curry mayo, followed by an apple each. Water to drink.
Dinner - Struggling with making stuff at the mo cos if it ain't speedy quick to prepare I feel far too bleugh to eat (meat is out too at the mo for me) Will probably be couscous with mixed beans and veggies.
I don't often use the library for myself but it is great for DD. She has loads of books but I like to get a couple of different ones from the library each week so she always has new ones to look at. They have toys there too and she loves playing for half an hour there. They also have fab schemes with sure start too (which am pretty sure are nationwide?) where they offer free books every now and again. DD even won a certificate to say she was the first to reach a certain number of visits!Love and compassion to all x0 -
Oh Lame Wolf I do understand what you mean! And when MSE Andrea told us (:o me included) off for swearing I was so upset! (especially when I saw some of the people that had thanked her! Well I never did! Except once and at least I turned the light off. And where are we to go when we forget to switch on the bread maker and three hours later need to ask whether the water will still be sufficiently tepid?
And there have been lovely pms from brilliant people which I will answer - I promise!
In a rush, hardly read anything, as little bear's runny tummy has passed to me.
But I wanted to say that just because I had been told off (and I am rather ashamed of my language but I was at my wit's end how to convey how irritated I was) doesn't mean I am not going to dash in occasionally with OS stuff, so there!
And I am going to start up a blog in a similar fashion to Hester, although probably with slightly different content. Are you allowed to swear on there?
Lame Wolf, I am so sorry you are feeling down, and I do hope that you feel better soon. I know lots on here understand and it is a safe place regardless of what anyone says to come for a hug.
Must go as from the extremely toxic odours little bear needs my attention again, but Hugs to all, and knickers to anyone who thinks I shouldn't say that!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -
Lamewolf - keep posting, hope you come out of the other side soon.
Floss - I love library's, in fact am about to apply for another job working in one, I know supermarket books are cheap but perhaps borrowing numbers will go up as a result of the credit crunch.
Just got back from Morrisons, bought the coffee which saved me a minimum of £1.50 per jar. Bought a few other bits but also on bogof or sprecial and stuff we will definately use.
Gonna go and have a coffee and must get the bread on!0 -

Charlies_mum I've only ever used proper wine yeast - someone else may know if bread yeast would work (hint - someone else please comment!)
What I do know, is that Mr LW's mum used to make Cider by just floating a slice of toast on the surface of the liquid. No yeast, just toast! Never tried this myself though, and sadly I never actually knew the lady, as she passed away a few months before Mr LW and I met.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
