On-line papers just aren't the same when house training puppies either
My husband buys a paper to read in his lunchbreak, he's sat at a computer all day so needs to escape from it. Then he brings it home and I enjoy curling up and reading it on the settee (under a fleecy blanket!) as I don't have a laptop couldn't do that without buying one.
The dogs are housetrained now but there's still loads of uses for old newspapers.

- best use for them, if you ask me...
I don't buy papers every day but I wouldn't be without my Saturday copy of the Times - I read almost all of it (which I wouldn't do if it was online), and do the crosswords...Operation Get in Shape

We only get two free papers a week , that would be useless against the tidal flow from one small puppy  Mind you on the rare occaisions I've been on the train to London there seems to be an ENOURMOUS supply of free papers waiting to be picked up. I always sit there hoping they get recycled by the cleaner. Somehow I think not
Strangely enough we rarely buy the weekend papers as they are more expensive and we seem to have less time to sit and read .Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
My husband does the same thing, and I get to read the paper (and do the crossword) later on. We don't have a dog at present, but newspaper is good for covering the table when painting little pewter figures for table-top gaming.:D
We still have some colourful marks on the kitchen table from this phase of life with three sons !
I wonder where all those fabulous creatures and soldiers went ? Probably lurking under somones bed .....

There are two free papers in this area, The Aberdeen Citizen and the Independant, if you dpn't want to buy the evening paper, wait until Wednesday when The Aberdeen Citizen arrives as it covers most of the major stories. :beer:Like good food and drink?
Try Hotel Chocolat and Baileys.

re: over indulgent un-necessary purchases - I am going to get frozen dumplings sometime soon, as I cannot make them to save my life! Hubby and I don't really do cooking from scratch - just whack it in the oven, be it baked potato or hunk of meat. I am always looking at other people's shopping, and I love working in 2 shops! I had a toy till when I was little!
omg, all this talk of pancakes though.. :drool:0 -
expensive cat litter - the cat is gonna poop on it!! do you think he cares if its tesco value???)

I went in the supermarket the other day and bought 2 big bags of Kettle Crisps (on 2 for £2 offer); Ice-cream (On offer) Beer (on offer) and Toilet paper (Had almost run out) - hope nobody thought that the beer, crisps and ice-cream was my dinner
(followed by a trip to the toilet?). My veg box had been delivered that day and I had already been to the butchers so I only popped in for some toilet paper but was distracted by the tempting offers on unhealthy beer, crisps and ice-cream.

Why not take a leaf from Jamie Oliver's new campaign, and assist someone you know, who can't cook, with some of the basics that we were taught by our parents, when we were childrenor have had the confidence to teach ourselves.

Surely even an idiot can make jelly:rolleyes:Panda on My Shoulder
If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0
