Oh I have to confess I am a trolley watcher! I love looking at what others are buying, any if anyone wants to look in my trolley well good luck to em!

I've often wondered who buys some of the ready made stuff, but now I know thanks to this thread! My dd2 would live on ready meals if given the choice, my other three children would cry if that was all they were offered, guess we're all different in our tastes!

I prefer to make stuff at home, and I enjoy it, so guess that'll explain my trolley contents. I still love dried mash and tinned potatoes though, mash is easy and cheap and I love tinned pots fried!

I'm going to be even worse now at the shops at peering into people's trolleys, I shall be trying to guess their reasons for buying stuff rather than wondering why they aren't making it themselves! Thanks to everyone who has shifted my point of view on this, I feel slightly ashamed, not cos I judged people, it's more that I assumed everyone could cook or learn or want to do so!

I've never considered tinned veg or baked beans as anything other than store cupboard essentails, cant imagine life without my baked beans

I have the OS recipe for home made baked beans but at the moment, this is so far down my list of priorities that it isn't even on the list! :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

I started this thread and am just catching up with the replies. I'm sorry if I offended anyone with it as it was meant to be light hearted. The tone of a few replies have saddened me as I consider that the OS Board is the friendliest one. Please don't turn this board into an aggressive, argumentative one as there's enough of them on the Forum already. Peace and love to you all! sign0009.gif

morganb - the tag at the end of your quote should say [/quote], then it'll display correctly :)

I agree about TTD sausages. I prefer sausages straight from the butcher, but TTD are the next best thing. You wouldn't catch me buying any sausage with less than 70% meat content, and preferably no less than 90%...

Even some of the reasonably decent-looking supermarket ranges fall short on that score!

I agree with morganb - I ALWAYS buy Mr T's Finest Pork & Apple Sausages! They are the best and worth the extra money, IMO.

I buy something that no-one else has mentioned (I think!)
    Frozen chips!!!
I have done for years. I remember my mum going off alarming at me! I pointed out that pound for pound they were actually cheaper than potates (and lasted longer) Obviously depends on what brand you buy. OH loves the french fries and they cost a £1 a pack and will last me over a month (he's the only one who eats them now)
The cost isn't really the reason I buy them though. I really don't enjoy cooking. I CAN cook (thanks Mum) but after a day's work I just want to feed the family with as less bother as I can. So if that means frozen mash then that's great! I do have the odd ready meal in the freezer but no-one eats them and I haven't bought one in ages. I did when my girls were younger though - frozen microwavable lasagne and bagged salad
I will cook completely from scratch when I'm on holiday though and I have to say I'm incredably proud of myself when I do....

I will say I get frozen oven chips too. Essentially as I don’t have a fryer and don’t need the possibility of being able to deep fat fry in my house! Oven chips are a once a month thing so it’s more efficient for me that way.

I think the only thing I really notice about in other people’s trolleys are

    1) Nothing but beer! I can’t think that’s healthy!
    2) Nothing but ready meals, of whatever value. Particularly when dad or mum has told the kids to get them and there are dozens. You know that’s all they eat and I have to say on that note, good luck Jamie Oliver trying to get people cooking! I always try to myself!:o

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

If I saw somebody with a trolley full of beer I'd just assume they were having a party...

    I:o

OOH - forgot them - me too! Don't own a chip-pan or deep-fat-fryer for same reasons....but DH has now said he doesn't like oven chips, so we have a once-a-month treat and get some from the chip-shop! (not oo bad as their portions are good so we share a big bag between us and are always stuffed!!!).
