OK, trying to remember that use of smileys means jokes but suggestion that those of us who might decide to waste our money on carrot batons (can't believe I'm even having this discussion but feel it is important to make the point) are so utterly dumb we can't recognise 'bendy' when we see it is - well! Like the flipping carrots in the 'loose' section haven't been knocking around in a refridgerated warehouse for a season or so! And while we are at it, most of the market stalls and greengrocers people are so proud of using are buying from wholesalers whose produce is hanging around for months on end.
The entire point is, surely, that these forums are about being open-minded and sharing the ideas of a wide range of people, aren't they? Surely it isn't about judging other adults on the choices they make against some group-selected ideal - and therefore suggesting other people are inadequate because they make different choices on how they live their lives.
I don't often post but I do enjoy the ideas I get from this forum - and the sheer batty extremes of some of it. However, being honest, there really are times when it gets so self-satisfied with itself it makes me feel like I just want to run off and buy turkey twizzlers and pop (that is northern for fizzy drinks!).
And while we are at it, I resent myself for being so sucked in that I actually justified the choice of a convenience meal with the excuse of a long day! It was delicious and I loved every salty bite!
And if I had any idea of how to do a smiley I would add one.0 -

- I buy local carrots in the vain hope they have been hanging around less places and not flown lots of miles!
- Exactly so, I have my opinion, you have yours, and the rest of the world has theirs.
- No-one suggested anyone was inadequate that I saw (maybe some people lay a guilt trip on themselves ?).
- Me too
- I have not seen this that often on here TBH- just friendly people who share ideas and help each other. (ps we call pop 'ginger' where I come from lol- Scotland to those of you who have not heard that expression).
- You only have to justify yourself to yourself- noone else lol. Glad you enjoyed it and also hope you enjoy your (hopefully work free) weekend!
Finally, the emoticons are on a list at the right hand side- just click on one and it appears. If it appears in the wrong place you can drag it around!
Hope this explains things a bit (sorry if the colour is a bit much but thought it looked nicer than quote/unquote every line!).Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I sometimes do the bulk shopping for our local parent and toddler group and my trolley is full of biscuits and more biscuits - loads of packets and lots of different kinds of choc and various plain/cream types!!! Especially if any offers around! Stocked up with half a trolley of jaffa cakes a while back as they are very popular!
Also semi skimmed milk (about 6l at a time) :rotfl:
and squash, coffee and tea again various kinds!
I can see people looking into my trolley and wondering all sorts!
Luckily I am the type that doesn't get easily embarrassed by this kind of thing!
Am sure that the group would love to have home made biscuits BUT would be far too expensive to make if cost in my time and energy (I am not going to make them for free) and storage facilities that would be needed.
So if you see a lady of generous proportions with a trolley full of biscuits .....

Pre made scotch pancakes is my bugbear, they are so easy to make!!
I have to say, I love a nice scotch pancake from time to time...you come in from the cold, all tired and miserable, you put the kettle on, have a couple of scotch pancakes with nice melty butter, put your feet up, stick neighbours on - bliss.
Now, for me to achieve that, I'll
1 - put the kettle on
2 - get the butter and milk out.
3 - get a plate, knife, teaspoon, cup and tea bag
4 - put premade pancakes in the toaster.
5 - go cue neighbours up on the telly
6 - make tea
7 - pop pancakes out, smeer in butter
8 - put milk and butter back in fridge
9 - aaaaaand relax
Start to finish, 90 seconds...2mins max.
Washing up - plate, knife.
Cup and teaspoon I expect I'll use again.
I'd be interested to see how your "so easy" method compares in terms of prep time and washing up left over...(I'm sure your pancakes would taste better in the end though - although mine probably wouldn't...)
The point is, there's "easy" and there's *easy* - for the sake of the few pence extra they cost, I'll take the convenience any day of the week...
The same's even more true when you use them as part of a grander plan...add some hot pancakes to icecream...no additional time taken, or washing up at all...Pancakes, bacon, eggs, maple syrup...Again, no extra washing up made or time taken...
Pancake mix is a different thing - time/washing up saved is highly questionable there - but ready made scotch pancakes (not keen on packet pancakes...they kinda defeat the point imho)...they just save a bunch of time and hassle...0 -
I'll put my hand up to buying prepared vegetables from time to time.
It saves so much time and energy, at the moment I'm working 12 hour shifts which exhaust me, having to study for work, mostly in my own time and I'm also not very well and extremely lacking in energy , it's borderline whether the Dr signs me off sick but I'd rather keep going.
I was on a long shopping trip the other day and knew I'd be too shattered to cook when I got home. So, rather than buy a ready meal I bought two packs of prepared casserole veggies, some chopped turkey and some half price oxtail soup. When I got home I shoved it all in two big casserole dishes popped in the oven, left the rest of the shopping for the boys to put away (lovely boys!) and I went to bed for two hours , woke up and dinner was ready and everyone loved it .
I wouldn't do this every day but on that day it was just what we needed and well worth the small amount of extra money.
I'd love to be more OS but it takes a lot of time and energy.

If I said I lived on microwaved single-portion meals four or five nights a week, some here might be horrified - but I do. They just happen to be ones I have made myself and frozen. That way I can eat wholesome home-cooked food almost all the time, but only actually need to cook when I have the time and inclination.Operation Get in Shape

I work in a hotel so when our suppliers let us down I've been down Sainsbury's buying all sorts - last time was for 120 loaves of bread - the cashier asked "Making sandwiches, are you?". I was tempted to tell him that it was how I made my dough but couldn't stomach the cheesiness of it (that was another shop - 10kg of cheddar!).

Anyone got a fail safe HM pancake recipe ?- mine never work and so I have to buy RM ones (nothing wrong with it would just be fine to be able to make them when I fancy them and not have to go to the shops!)
