I wish I hadn't read this thread. My shopping trolley never contains meat, fruit or veg as I buy these things locally from the local butcher and the farm shop. It never occurred to me that people may be looking in my trolley and wondering how I survive on toiletries, tinned tomatos and tonic water until now   :eek:0

I think its been a good discussion and we've maybe all learned something even if its only that we need to be a little more tolerant
I second your remarks about the aggressive/argumentative posts; the same thing happened on the 'Comments on the OS daily' thread- all totally unnecessary and totally pointless
luckily, friendly OS'ers far outnumber the aggressives - Long live OS! :T... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Penny is of course absolutely right but I don't know if I would have the guts to go up to someone in a supermarket  .
The one thing I cannot believe that people buy is packet pancake mix. All the one's I've seen say 'just add egg and milk' - so basically you are buying a packet of flour with a pinch of salt
Lol in Tesco earlier I said exactly the same thing to a friend. Her argument was well its only 8p for the value pancake mix. I said yes but a bag of flour would make a heck of a lot more pancakes. She couldn't understand why I thought packet pancake mix was such a waste of money.

(It's a good job I don't just fill my trolley with beer, as I know dronid doesn't live a million miles from me and it's probably my trolley he's been looking into)

good point, well made LL. I took your original post to be light hearted, and I'm sorry if anyone took my replies as a serious attack. Glad to know I'm not the only one who can't help people-watching...I was starting to think I was some kind of nosey-neighbourweaving through the chaos...0 -
There's a lot of stuff I think, what do you buy that for? But each to their own. I have read the thread, and have seen the comments about people struggling with the necessary tools etc. A lot of people I know who do this, though, have no such problems, yet still do it!
Prepped fruit/veg.
Frozen mash/yorkshire puddings.
Pancake and dumpling mix.
Instant mash.
ready made spam fritters (lol)
Ready made sauces
Disposable nappies and wipes(hee hee)
Ready meals.
grated cheese
It doesn't bug me at all, I just think why? And then I remember that not everyone can cook, prep food, or can be faffed with washable nappies. Each to their own - it's up to them what they spend their money on. It's human nature to be a teeny bit judgemental I think.
All you crisp haters though - leave me alone *sob*
I agree. They are bad for you, expensive, no nutritional value, but I adore them. I rarely buy them, because if we have them, I eat them. I can't help myself, and homemade just doesnt' do it for me. It's the one thing that homemade, cannot beat LOL. Prawn cocktail walkers. Scampi and Lemon nik-naks. Ok, I'm drooling now.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Hi - long time lurker here
I'm afraid I buy loads of convenience foods, ie frozen yorkshires, frozen roast tatties, frozen stuffing balls, instant mash (my OH loves Smash!), ready made sauces and ready mealsbasically because they are erm........convenient!
I work full time, (leave the house at 7am and don't get back til 6pm or sometimes later) 5 days a week, sometimes 6 days, and have 3 teenage children. I'm so knackered by the time I get home I just want to throw something in the oven and let it cook itself more or less.
When the children were small I used to make more things myself, but now I just don't have the time/inclination. I love reading about all the lovely things you ladies make tho, and wish I could eat some of them (I'm sure I read on here - maybe not this thread - someone made an apple and pear crumble and it sounded completely yummy)
I would *love* to be a stay at home mum like someone else said, but unless I win the lottery, that simply isn't going to happen  You ladies who *can* stay at home are so lucky and I envy you!I shall just carry on reading all the tips and recipes and hope that one day I have time to make some myself.
And it never occurred to me that people might be looking in my trolley LOL  I'll be paranoid in the supermarkets now0 -

Ok, I'm drooling now.I have tried switching to the tesco finest ones at £1.49 a bag. lol Soooo much more expensive than a 2normal" packet of crisps but ohhh so yummy. Now i'm thinking about the bag I bought earlier that is in the kitchen lol.
hugs

I will tell my disabled husband I can no longer buy frozen mash so he can make himself some lunch because it makes me look like a lazy moooooooooooooooo :rotfl:
Also I can't make mash with out lumps and lumps make me want to heave.

Eating, usually.
I don't like the assumption that everyone is lazy. There are plenty of things I don't see the point of buying, so I don't. What other people choose to spend THEIR money on is their own business and I don't see the need to feel superior.
People here are justifying themselves for buying ready made yorkshires? Why? Making them is a faff, they rarely rise properly and the oven is already full when doing a roast. Frozen ones I can just bung in to cook on the residual heat when the oven is off and the meat is out resting.
Is it? What with? Certainly not the roast itself which should be out resting by the time Yorkshires go in.;)
I have always used Delia's recipe for Yorkshire's and it always works. A two egg batter in a baking tray for one big, Quatermass, yorkie. Important to have the oven v.hot (220C), another reason why the roast shouldn't be in there.
My mother complained for years that she couldn't make yorkshires. The reason? She was using self raising flour:rolleyes:.
