Why buy?

On behalf of a friend who buys a lot of ready made stuff, she's single, working full-time, looks in on elderly relatives (yes, plural) every night and would rather spend her money on prepared stuff than depriving family of her time. Her money, her choice.0

Have to say I generally do most of my supermarket shopping online so no chance of anyone looking into my trolley.
Remember when taking OH years ago and his idea of fun was putting loads of industrial sized Durex boxes inside our trolley - now that would have looked interesting.
Savannah - yes think I sometimes forget what its like to be out of the house full time plus other necessary duties. I work from home and take it for granted that I can pop in and out of the kitchen.
Have to say am not too tempted by most supermarket convenience food but now we have a local M&S food - well thats a different matter - am managing to be quite good so far.0 -
I buy a lot of Basics/Value stuff, but I would not think negatively towards someone buying Taste The Difference versions - after all it's their money they're spending, not mine! Some people (including supermarket staff in the past) have sneered at me for buying Basics/Value stuff... if I was to sneer at someone buying TTD, am I really any different or better than those who sneer at me for buying Basics/Value?
For my sins I buy TTD sausages and beefburgers (only on offer though - if not on offer, I don't buy!)
I do admit to taking a sneaky peek in people's trolleys at the checkout though - quite often they've got something in their trolley that I meant to get but had forgotten, cue mad dash down the aisles to fetch said item before my turn at the tillDFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0 -
I think Lilac Lady's point was that the cost of those individual pots of jelly is way more than making up a tablet of jelly and pouring it into little pots. I thought she was asking if people ever felt like pointing out a cheaper alternative, not that she was saying that folk who buy these things are lazy.0

Gees I never knew this went on, If a trolley watcher approached me about the contents of my trolley they would get short shrift and be sent packing with a flea in their ear to mind their own.
People really don't like being told what to spend their money on...I remember when I used to work retail, some woman came up with the "greatest air guitar" album or something, about £15. I pointed out, all friendly and polite like, that the box set of that album with the "volume 2" one, as well, was currently £9.99 in the sale. She went completely off her rocker and started screaming at me in the middle of the store...So after that, I tend to keep my nose out of other people's affairs..0 -
I do have to wonder what "trolley-watchers" would make of my supermarket shop - NO fresh fruit or veg, cos I get it at the market (better quality and value) NO cheese or eggs (Farmers Market - similar reasons). NO meat or fish - I'm vegetarian.
I don't really trolley-watch myself - you can't easily see into someone's trolley from a wheelchair!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

Just can't decide whether to read that as
(industrial sized) (Durex boxes)
or
(industrial sized Durex) boxes0 -
Another reason for apparently fit and healthy young women to be buying ready-made mash and the like -they may be suffering from horrible morning sickness yet still have feed themselves and/or partners.
Although this probably wouldn't be a problem for those with industrial sized boxes of Durex:rotfl:0 -
I have to say, I never look at what other people are buying because I'm too engrossed in ensuring what I have picked up is the same price, quantity, etc that's on my list I printed from Mysupermarket! And if it's not, I'm then trying to find the next cheapest/best alternative! (Sad, I know)
I must confess, however, when I'm waiting in the que, I play a little game - guess what the person in front/behind is having for dinner tonight. Now THAT is fun and I don't ever judge them and I don't think I'm nosey in this respect - it just makes time go a lot quicker!!
