Have gone through set up but only get black and white picture and after changing channel, it is ok for a few secs then jumps/flickers so that it is unwatchable. It also seems to be melting over to one side (sorry don't know technical terms)!?There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0

Two things to try:
Try pressing MENU then use the arrow up/down to select SETTINGS then use arrows to go down to VIDEO (It will say CVBS or RGB) If it says RGB change it to CVBS or vice versa.
If that doesn't help try pulling the SCART cable out of the PVR and the TV and swap it over so it's plugged in the other way round, just in case it's a faulty cable.0 -

Having managed to get some sort of response from the PVR I suggest it would be wise for Molly to change things from now on one thing at a time and report back here after each step. It would also be useful for Molly to provide us with a bit more Info also. e.g. is the aerial being fed via the Sky Box and DVD Recorder before being routed to the PVR? If so then there could be an issuse with the need for the Sky Box and DVD needing to be switched on or at least in standby to ensure the feedthrough of a good aerial RF signal. Alternatively if there one or more aerial splitters then there could be excessive attenuation issues. The ideal for test purposes would be to feed the wall aerial socket directly to the PVR (assuming there is a wall socket). There could also be a question of whether the aerial socket upstairs is also connected to the same aerial.
Also useful to know if the downstairs TV has more than one Scart input and if so to which one Molly has connected it. Also useful to know how the Scarts from the Sky Box and DVD are connected to the TV. It may be possible for Molly to check what type of signal these are sending to the TV particularly to the TV Scart input she has disconnected to use for the PVR. Maybe useful to know if the TV indicates on it's screen whether it is receiving and RGB input or not when the PVR signal is switched to it. Rather than removing a Scart from the TV to replace it with a different one from the PVR it would be preferable to disconnect the other end of the original Scart from the Sky Box or DVD (as applicable) and connect this to the PVR TV SCART. That way we know a good Scart lead is being used.
Hopefully all the above will not be necessary if Molly responds to Lorians last post to say she has it all sorted.

Colin , as afaik the pvr output fails to RGB when switched off.
Bon Molleee, at least we know it works.:D

Connect as before to portable TV via scart, not forgetting your aerial into pvr.

Press right or left, and you should get a picture on the portable.
Now to get a good picture, unfortunately there are two transmitters for Nottingham, a small 40watt filler, near junction 26 on the M1. Your aerial needs to have vanes vertical and pointing NW from Nottingham centre.

The big transmitter 10Killowatt is just north of Melton Mowbray at Waltham the aerial elements should be horizontal and pointing a bit north of southeast.

Once again many thanks you guys. Having a bit of a technology crisis. Was desperate to record a programme as I do night class philosophy on Tuesdays. Basically the SONY I've got is very hit and miss and that's why I got PVR. Fiddled with things yesterday but then set SONY up to record last night but it has locked up, didn't record and have had to switch it off. Now my computer is not working very well and did not alert me to all your messages and going v slow. Will take it down and try and sort through all cables and report back on the details you need. There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0

In Molly's case if as appears to be the case she has already installed the PVR on the downstairs TV then this installation should be retained when she moves the PVR upstairs. So, on switch-on it should follow the "normal" (i.e. post-installation) boot sequence. After the boot sequence has been completed the PVR should automatically revert to the standby mode. Depending on the features of the TV the TV display may be automatically switched to the PVR Scart input and transient clicks and flashes may be seen on the screen as the PVR switches between it's modes during the boot sequence. Then when the PVR Remote Control POWER button is pressed the PVR should come out of standby and the last programme used before the unit was switched off should be displayed on the screen.
I would suggest that before moving the PVR upstairs she ensures that she has a fully functioning unit using the downstairs TV. The last we heard from Molly was that she still had issues with a black and white and unstable TV display.
I would further suggest that having solved the above issues downstairs, she also fully tests the Scart lead to be used upstairs on the downstairs installation She should test that the PVR is capable of outputting both RGB and CVBS using this lead. If when the PVR is moved upstairs there are still problems displaying the PVR output on the TV then it will be known that the problem is with the TV rather than the PVR. If the above does not reveal any problems with the Scart lead then I suggest Molly sets to PVR output to CVBS before moving it upstairs. If the original problem upstairs was that the TV is not capable of accepting an RGB input (as you suggested in an earlier post) then this will overcome that issue, thus hopefully enabling a display on the TV which will make it easier to change settings on the PVR rather than trying to do this "blind".
Just a couple of comments on the PVR front panel displays. On switch on before "boot" is displayed the LED on my unit shows a smaller blue LED image in the centre of the red image so the overall effect from a distance is a purple(ish) colour rather than blue. Also in "normal" standby (i.e. post-installation) the display shows the current time rather than --:--

Hi Colin
Just been round the back of the TV and can report: TV is Toshiba. The main aerial from the wall goes into the Grundig digibox. Another aerial is connected from Sony DVD recorder to TV, also one from Digibox to Sony. When I tried to set up PVR yesterday I used the one from the TV to plug into PVR. Which one should go into PVR?
The Scarts are as follows: Digibox to TV into box with arrow 1. PVR to TV into box with arrow 2(Audio/Video) 2S(S-video). Also Sony to Digibox tho can't record from Sky (should I be able to?).
Happy to report computer perked up a bit and now that I have plugged Sony back in it is not locked and I can watch repeat on more 4 tonight so not such a bad day after all.
HTH.
