    Any joy MollyB?
  • Will have to report back tomorrow as daughter is asleep in there now and we have been out all day so will give it a go then. Defo got batteries in but you might have a point about whether the light is on or off, so will try that.

Sorry, but I have to ask this to check - Did you put the batteries in the remote control? - The red light should light up on the remote when you press any button.

Is there a red light showing on the front of the PVR?

If you point the remote at the front of the PVR and press "POWER" does the light on the front of the PVR go off? You need the red light off before pressing "OK" to do the setup.

Lorian. Even if there is a problem with the remote MOLLYBRUSH should still be getting a display of some sort on the TV if the PVR is booting up. On first time installation this should display the FIRST TIME INSTALLATION banner on the TV. Unless of course the unit had been successfully installed previously and it is following the normal boot routine of booting and going to standby.

MOLLYBRUSH. Could you clarify the following extract from your earlier post "just four dashes appear on the display and then when I switch to AV some zeroes appear" Do you mean the 4 dashes on the PVR front panel change to 4 zeros at the exact instant you select the AV (i.e. Scart) input on your TV? It would be very odd for the TV to have any effect on the PVR.

    You're right. It's strange:

    No First time install banner
    No Menu when menu pressed
No Clock display even after pressing "OK" and waiting a while.

Maybe the aerial signal is not strong enough or not it is pointing in the right direction, causing no stations to be found, clock not to be set AND the TV is not switching to video in properly.

    Molly,
your problem seems to be that your TV scart input only takes CVBS and the PVR "TV out" is set to RGB, which creates a conundrum of how to get the PVR to CVBS without having a picture.
Concentrate on the clear (blue?) blank screen, which should be channel 0/ or AV on the TV.

You need to get the PVR to go to the settings/ configuration menu. My PVR unfortunately is at the "menders", so what I say may not be exact, sorry in advance.

Use the remote or the buttons on the top right front of the PVR.
Press menu, I presume the front PVR display will then say "menu", then the up and down keys so that it displays "set(tings)", {I think down 5 times} then press OK.
Then you need to go to "TV out" which is 3 down presses, and then press OK.
Then you need to press the left or right arrow keys ( only on remote? dunno) ONCE, this should change the PVR output from RGB to CVBS (maybe words on front display?) and then press OK and you should have a TV picture, hopefully.

Otherwise if not shown on display, Try This................. blind:

With remote push Menu - push down\/ 5 times- thenOK - then down 3 times - then "left<" or "right>" once - then OK

    !! The snowy channels are because you need another aerial lead from the PVR little round aerial out socket to the aerial socket on the TV to get the normal "old" analogue signal to the TV}

HTHs (mind games  ) dc.

PS what model is your portable?

Even without an aerial connected I would have expected the First Time Installation banner to be displayed i.e. before any attempt to tune anything has been started? Do you agree?

I think you're right, but it's a long time since I did it.

Maybe DC's suggestion will help. I don't recall if it came pre-set to CVBS or RGB though.

I guess the other thing to do is to try plugging it in to another TV just to see if there is a display.

Am having a go with this so will reply to this bit first - have turned on both - four dashes appear on PVR screen - then turned off as per Lorian instructions - the display goes to THREE (sorry not four) zeroes and the TV screen goes blank. Not tried anything else yet thought would report back this bit. HTH

What's on the TV screen when the four dashes are on the PVR?

TV is a Daewoo and is at least 10 years old. Could try it on main TV which is Hitachi or Toshiba later on today but have to go out now to my French class. Really appreciate all your help you people, appreciate it's some time since most of you did this.
