The Welsh wiz would understand.
Lorian, the Dreambox is a linux based digital satellite pvr. Costs towards £300.
Cams are Conditional access modules, which allow you to recieve subscription channels by viewing cards, similar to the Top-uptv ones.

Heh, I see his reference to the dreambox now, and it makes sense
If you want to email me the photo I can add it. pvr101@bug-byte.co.uk.
Thanks.0 -
Hi please excuse my ignorance but only just got the PVR out of the box and Sky cancellation misfired as they gave me a good deal so have carried on with them for a bit longer. Can anyone tell me if I need to buy a wire that goes from the aerial socket on the wall to go to the PVR. I got the scart in the box but no aerial thing, and as I haven't got one, do I need to go and get one of these. It doesn't seem to want to work. It's got so technical on here am cringing to ask what is probably something so simple but not good with these things. Thanks. There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0

Past 800 posts now! This must surely be the longest 'single-item' thread?0

You will need a cable from the wall aerial outlet socket, make sure there is an aerial on the house or in the loft. You can get a Coaxial aerial lead cheaply from a Pound shop like Poundland or cheaper if you have a Home Bargains (57p). or dearer at a supermarket.
You may get away with a set-top aerial if you live close to the transmitter.
Dont worry just ask.

Oh thank you so much. Am single mum so don't have anybody to quickly ask. I thought it was the case but because there wasn't one in the box, thought I had better check. There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.0

If you are happy not to watch analogue TV anymore from now on (most people dont I guess) just unplug the aerial cable from the back of the TV (or Skybox) and plug it into the PVR.
Plug the SCART lead from the PVR into the telly, switch it on, select "video-in" on the TV and you're done.
If you want to be able to use the SKY digibox AND the PVR at the same time using SCARTs and don't have two SCART sockets on the TV then you'll need to "cascade" them together using the 2nd SCART on the PVR.0 -

nothing at all.
my patience is wearing very thin!
I seem to remember from a few weeks ago someone saying they had found the ribbon cable plug to the hard drive was not pushed right home on their unit. Worth a look if you feel like opening your box up.0 -

Hi dc, I didn't want upset anyone for discussing a Satellite related issue in the PVR101 thread that is why I have not answered your question, I only mentioned the DM7000s before because of the HDD issue.
The DM7000s is not now available, the replacement is the DM7020s but there have been many problems with this box, I suggest you have a look at the Sattv forums and ask your questions there, I am normally lurking in most of the popular ones and will try to answer you better there....
