My first post here, although I have been following the thread since my box started playing up - i.e. the day I got it!
Thanks to all those of you who have been so dilligently recording all the weird and wonderful behaviour of the PVR101.
I guess we are all optimistic that the V1.2 update will sort everything out. I must admit to being doubtful not least because of the instruction on the helpline ....

    Quote:
To receive the update please have your unit in standby when not in use and the upgrade will happen automatically
    End Quote

.. surely this demonstrates that they are NOT aware of all the problems! We ALL know that leaving automatic updates on causes the box to hang. Of course, we can get the update manually but the fact that they suggest using auto-update, despite the problems it causes, is my concern.
I think I'm probably in line with the majority of you in that I could put up with all the minor niggles (although the lip-sync problem is very annoying ... got so bad last evening that even my wife noticed it) if they can only sort out the No Signal thing.
If V1.2 can do this there will be a stay of execution from most of us I guess - if not, will anyone keep theirs?
One other question. Has ANYONE reading this forum NEVER had a single NO SIGNAL error?

To be fair to Technotrend/Key the advice to leave the unit in standby (with Auto Update enabled) is probably the best advice for most users. The unit hanging in standby is not a frequent occurence AFAIK. If the unit does hang then the user will be aware of this and can take the appropriate action. Only those users following forums like this or who are aware of the DTG Download Schedule will know when an update is due. The alternative of telling users to make frequent manual checks for the availability of an update or make other arrangements to inform themselves of this would not be appropriate for most users. Those more technical types will be aware of the alternatives and do what they think best.

Personally whether I keep the unit will depend on what other options become available before this one is updated to an acceptable level. I am currently using the 101 as a potentially free trial. It does have some very nice features which I would be reluctant to lose. On balance and taking into account price there is nothing else I would change it for at the moment. But if the No Signal problem is not solved soon then I suspect it will not be long before I will see something better.

I doubt there is any user who having used the unit for a while has not experienced the No Signal problem. Various suggestions have been made for mitigating the problem but none have proved successful.

I've noticed the last few says when in the EPG (not always mind) that programmes are duplicated in the "list view". I.E. when theres about 6 programmes listed. Saturday night for example I was setting it for Match of the Day as we were going out and it was listed twice separated by other programmes. Selecting it for recording highlighted both. Recorded ok though. Might try a hard reset to see if it clears it.

I had this occur on one occasion a few days ago. As I had not seen it reported before on here I assumed it may have been because of something I had done so did not take much notice of it, and I can't remember any details about it now.

Actually it might be worth turning off "automatic software updates" for a day or two first, and see if that stops it. I can't recall seeing one of these annoying switch-overs happen since I turned them off but it may just be co-incidence.

It seems to have worked. I've even monitored the box when I've set up recordings and apart from the red s/by light changing to blue - (which it's supposed to do) NO PROBLEMS!

And for INTERACTIVE ARCHITECT --- apart from the initial set up when I got the box I haven't had any 'NO SIGNAL' problems. Yes, I got the only working box. --- There MUST be others out there!!!

i have tried recording for the last 3 days and the thing is just not doing it?

That is un-usual. Would you care to post more detail? e.g. Do all types of recording fail? e.g. From the EPG, Instant Record, Manual Timer setting. What results do you get when you attempt to record. Does Timeslip work OK. Do recordings appear in the Timers List? If so, does the HD start up at the sheduled start time? Does the front panel display correctly indicate that a recording is taking place?

Although we've been playing with the RGB/CVBS setting, we're back to getting loads of No Signals again.

    Roll on 5th Feb!

    absolutley nothing records.
when i try from EPG , pausing tv and manual.

  • Mine has failed to record a specific program for which I have selected the daily option from the EPG. Worked fine last week and now doesnt do anything.
The red dot still shows in the EPG but it seems to be ignored.

Could be a software fault in that the daily option to record is only recognised for so many days. Will see if it works tomorrow and if not will reset the command to record again.

    Newsflash!
I've just been told by a KayWarranties engineer that the v1.2 update will be broadcast 20th-23rd February 2006, starting at 10am. This will be on the DTG web site eventually. They reckon this will fix the No Signal problem!
