This thread is getting a bit long, so in anticipation of the OTA update on 29/12/05 for the Technosonic PVR101, I am starting this new thread for posting comments, queries and experiences once you have attempted/completed the update.

Gee I'd have to sign up to post.
  • mmmm....yes you would.
Someone could always start a similar thread here, but maybe this is starting to go a bit OT for this particular forum/website.
  • Even though I have ITV 1 picture, I have no sound.
I also recorded a programme and when I came to watch it the machine locked. I could do nothing with it at all. I had to take the plug out and start all over again.
Anyone had any of the same problems ?

One of the first issues raised... page 11 and onwards in this thread.
May depend on which transmitter you see: Winter Hill is a problem, there may be others.

    That's not one I've had.

Just to add to this, thought about getting the Aldi pvr, but decided I did not want the hassle. I also thought that maybe by the time they sorted the problems out, the company that makes them would go bankrupt....
Anyway, went with the Humax 9200 - and if you can afford it, it is marvellous. It just records what you want, no weird sound or vision problems, and well worth the cash.
Comet do them, but you can get them online for around 212.
The benefit of Aldi is you can take them back at anytime and get your money back.
    All the best, Happy Christmas!
  • It's strange though, looking through the other PVR sections here, DigitalSpy, and other places, there doesn't seem to be any make that hasn't been plagued with problems at some stage.

I had been considering a Fusion FVRT100, but the current batch seems to be refurbished units, there is also a power supply issue, and software issues with EPG and AFD switching.

Just for your info, the Humax Duovision 9200T is now available for £199.99 at Comet instore (no reduction for online purchase). My local one had at least 40 in stock. Hopefully this is a stable price and not just a temporary reduction. If only there were some Comet discount codes in existance........

I'm certainly considering this now. However, I will wait for the update for the Technosonic on the 29th and if not the swap out supposedly in January.

My pvr 101 keeps locking up after being on standby for a while. Turned it off then on again and works again with all recordings in tack....
The only problem which was a major pain was that had roger rabbit set to record and while in stanby the clock wasnt keeping up with GMT and missed the scheduled recording time until I turned it back on and it started to record again...
Has the clock and locking out problems been reported yet?
I'll be on the phone to them tomorrow.

I never put mine on standby now, unless it's required for the 5 minutes before re-booting to ensure the program index is saved. I only need to do this for the "No Signal" problem.

I think we should add "Unoffical ALDI/Technosnic/TechnoTrend Beta Testers" to our sigs.
  • Okay, so I got my parents a PVR101 for Christmas. Not the greatest idea apparently given this thread, but hey. :) Set it up today, and have successfully watched digital TV, performed a manually started recording and a timeshift. Yay for that, it's rather nice when it's working. Problems - yes, I have no sound on ITV, easily got around so far, and sometimes No Signal even though there blatantly is - rather more annoying when we want to be watching something! Noticed an oddity that I don't think has been mentioned earlier - it seems to be only after we've used the EPG for a while that we've had the No Signal problem. My random thinking is perhaps opening the EPG causes a lot of info to download, which causes some sort of overheating, leading to No Signal until the box has cooled down a bit. I'm hoping it's not that, as then it wouldn't be software related and not fixed by the update later this week. Oh well, I might give Key a ring tomorrow and have a chat about it...
