Last time I looked my local Aldi still had some of the Tevion PVR's and as we are coming up to the end of our warranties on the PVR101 and now people have had time to get used to the Tevion - can anyone give an opinion on whether its worth the hassle of taking back the Technosonic to exchange for a Tevion?

I believe the Tevion has a 3yr warranty but I would need to back-up a load of recordings from HDD so it really wouldnt be worth it unless there are some other advantages to the Tevion - ie it doesnt freeze as much as the 101.

Any help would be appreciated (any views Lorian???)

I replaced my Technosonic with a Tevion when they first came out and it has been a much more stable machine BUT at the weekend it suddenly froze, made a clunking noise, then completely died. Took it back to Aldi today and they had none left. Got a refund no problem, went to another Aldi, but they had none left either. Grrr. I'm going to miss my Tevion! Anyone know if Aldi are going to sell them again in the future?
  • The OH bought this yesterday as a treat for us. However it appears it is unable to record. It says that hard disc is nearly full but when you look in the recordings list, there arent any programs appearing. Also we tried to reformat the hard drive and it just seems to freeze... left it about 30 mins. Should I just have him return it? Or does someone have an inkling on how to fix this. I hate to burst his bubble and tell him he's bought a dud.

My guess is the IDE disk cable has come loose. It's easy to open the box up and check, but strictly it would void the warranty, but if it's like the pvr101 there are no seals.

Dunno about Aldi, but Comet seem to have the Technosonic PVR101 variant:

That's interesting. A bit overpriced at £119.99 compared with the competition. Makro currently have a 160GB version of this PVR for £99.99 + VAT. Note that Comet have made a hash of the specification "Full Details". Contradictory references to can and can't watch a channel whilst recording another and says it also has an analogue tuner!!

  • Found out by accident the weekend that this fantastic box we have will record programmes whilst you are already watching one on playback. :j

  • Bought last one of these from sore in stoke yesterday. Asked about discount, but got none, paid £99.99. Got it home, it had obviously already been unpacked once, so no suprises when i plugged it in and only got a black screen. Anyone else had this problem?? From reviews i've read its case of being lucky and gettin one with no major fault sounds 50/50 to me. Will return this one and look in other aldi's, at £49.99 it really would be a bargain. (hotukdeals forum post - some stores reduced to £49.99)

Anyone managed to record from Five US or Five Life yet, with a PVR 101?
Mine doesn't want to - it lets me program a recording and cancel one BUT never actually records anything.

Definitely instant recorded from Five US - not sure about timers though. Try re-tuning.....
