Does anyone know if it is possible to turn off the on screen display? I could do with it off when recording over to DVD.
    Thanks

Ian - do you mean the bar that moves across the top of the screen during playback that tells you how long the recording is and how long you have played?

If so, you can definately turn it off - I think its the "i" (info) button. I'll check this evening.

Yes, that's the fella. I transfer recordings onto DVD and sometimes I need to pause the PVR but it always brings that bar up along the top and it's a pain to avoid getting it on the DVD.
    Thanks,
    Ian.

Tried using the i button whilst in pause and it does remove the bar. Only trouble is it comes back again as soon as I press play! I would love to be able to pause without it appearing at all but suspect it isn't going to be possible.

Depends on what you are expecting. Many have returned theirs to Aldi but some of us rather like it. I'm one of the latter at least until something better comes along. Let us know what you think after a week or so. If you have not done so already I suggest you read this thread for information on work arounds for the various bugs which it has.

Oh dear, got back from holiday to find that I had filled my drive and lost everything. I reformatted the drive but now I have 55 hrs of available recording time whereas when the unit was new it said I had 60 hours of recording time available so I have somehow lost 5 hours. Presumably there is still something on there using up the lost 5 hours.
Anyway, I have decided to put a bigger drive in but am unsure if there is anything I should specifically look for. Ebuyer have a Seagate ST3160812A for £38 inc vat (item 97514). It's a 160gb though I am aware I will only get 120gb of space. However this drive is cheaper than the 120gb version and has an 8mb buffer instead of 2mb on the 120gb. It has a transfer rate of 100mbps. Will this drive be okay? Do I just drop it in and format using the PVR remote or does it need formatting some other way before it will work?

Really narked at losing all my stuff, I thought I had 23 hours of space before going away and only set to record 17 hours but I must have miscalculated. 11 hours of the OC for my daughter too, I got a right ear full.

  • I went away and it didn't record anything beyond the 2nd day. I couldn't watch the tv either because there was nothing in the EPG, and I had to switch the power off and on to get them back - I assume that's why it stopped recording, no programmes listed.
That is when it finally went back to Aldi - quote from the assistant "reason for return", and we just ended up saying "faulty".
Bought the Digihome from Argos for the same money - so far so good.
  • Ooh, I've just seen the new pvr that Aldi has next week and am very tempted to take my 101 back for a refund and get this one. 160gb storage and high speed dubbing, just what I need.

Which Aldi PVR is that? All I can see listed is a DVD/HDD Recorder on this Sunday's Specials. This is not really a PVR in the generally accepted sense.

Yes you're right. I kind of jumped to conclusions there. On close inspection I don't think it even has a built in tuner, or probably just a standard analogue job at best. Starting to look expensive now, even the DVD recorder only records in Nicam. Ah well, back to the drawing board.
