This is reported to be fixed in firmware 1.6 which will hopefully be broadcast next week. It's in the schedule now, but not confirmed yet (so it may slip a week or two based on past experience).

I think I am going to give up on the Technosonic. I am currently trying the Thomson twin tuner. Only 40Gb HD but 20 hrs recording is enough for me. It has the advantage of being able to record 2 channels at once and playback a previous recording at the same time. Also continually records the last 30 minutes of the channel you are watching so if you missed something you can rewind. Early days yet but appears to be an OK machine.

I would probably have had a Thomson by now if they had not stopped production of it last year. It is one of the few PVR's that have a Skip feature and it also has an useful RF Modulator. They appear to have now re-started production and a software update was transmitted a few days ago. With the latest software the Timeslip buffer is adjustable up to 120 minutes. I will certainly consider the Thomson if the PVR101 does not come good. Maybe if the latest Thomson update proves reliable I may even consider getting it anyway as I have realised that the inability of the PVR101 to record two channels at the same time is more restrictive than I initially believed.

Too late for me, I took mine back today. The functionality of the Thomson is much better than the Technosonic and no problems, so far.

Started with a Pace Twin - lasted for 6 years with only slight bug problem

Upgraded to Aldi Technosonic - lasted 2 weeks then gave up.

Upgraded to Digifusion FVRT 200 - great machine but eventually died after 3 months

Decided to go with so called perfect PVR - the Humax 9200T - sent it back after 2 weeks - full of bugs even after the latest download....

In my opinion, the biggest disappointment was the Humax considering how much it was selling for....

Nothing else to choose from now apart from the Topfield. Its a little pricey and still not bug free. Will wait now for the next generation PVR to come along

    Regards to everyone

Well now, are we living in a haunted house, is it the Goodmans tele on the blink or has the PVR101 really got a mind of its own???

For some time (since 1.5), we've experienced random loss of programme (picture and sound) which can be recovered by powering the 101 off and back on - doing nothing to the tele.

Then yesterday, the tele powered itself ON!!!!!!!!!

Not being very energy conscious, we leave both tele and PVR always on standby.

Has anyone else experienced this or can suggest a cause?

If you leave the PVR in standby it powers up once every 4 hours to check the time. This can cause "random" loss of pricture and sound, as the TV selects the SCART in, but the PVR switched back of instantly so shows no picture or sound, usually just a blank picture like the TV is switched off.

Removing the wire to pin 8 on the scart will stop this, but will also stop the TV selecting the PVR when you switch it on. Or better still don't switch the PVR on to standby. It only saves literally a few pennies a year in electricity anyway. The calculation is somewhere in this thread somewhere LOL ^^^
