You can drop it off at any bank/pay-in point.
Easier for people who walk past a bank each day, like me. 24 hour access to the machines ...
Not if you bank with a financial institution that doesn't have any branches in your area.
I'm not going 100 miles to put a cheque in one of my accounts. :rotfl:I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I am just interested because I recently opened a Lloyds Premier Vantage account and was issued with a £250 cheque guarantee limit Visa Debit card.
I was led to believe that banks were to stop offering Cheque Guarantee cards? I mean where accepts cheques anymore?
Just interested to know what cheque limits peeps have and whether you use it.
Chris.
I have a £250 cheque guarantee, but I have never had a cheque book. I hate cheques with a passion. Plus, I work for a bank - free Bankers' Drafts for life, just in case I ever need one.ShelfStacker wrote: »I couldn't get one, but then I upgraded to HSBC Plus and for some reason the Plus debit card that came through had a £100 limit on it. So it appears they may not care if you wing £13 a month their way.
Never had that with anyone else, btw. Asked Alliance and Leicester for one, they said they'd send one through, said it had been sent out and then sent me a letter saying I'd been declined for one. Eejits.
Don't HSBC do anything for their staff, current account/card wise?sutton111- they are useless. Im still having grief with them about the card on my account (its not a Visa Electron, according to them, but yet it can only be used where online auth is possible - er, doesnt this make it an Electron???)
Yes, yes it does.tavarishink wrote: »HSBC £100
And I go though 3 - 4 chequebooks a year, so very important for me.
I take part in shows & competitions, and all entry fees have to be sent by cheque with the entry form. I also use cheques to send birthday/X-mas pressies to my young siblings, I use cheques to pay back money lent to me by friends ... erm ... I use a lot of cheques!
But a cheque guarantee is only valid if the payee writes the card number on the cheque, and the cheque is signed in the presence of the payee and the signature checked to the back of the card. They're absolutely useless otherwise. What would William Shatner do?0 -

We do have a number of offers for staff, but cards are not part of the deal. Customer scoring applies to staff as well.0 -

Out of interest, are you still subject to charges etc? What would William Shatner do?0 -
Natwest gave me a £250 chq gurntee card when I opened an account with them. At the time I was not on the Voter's roll and had no credit history whatsoever. I found them to be a dog-turd of a bank but very lenient with issuing cards I guess.0

Can anyone tell me if a Cheque Guarantee Limit is a form of credit to banks? Because I applied for an overdraft and Lloyds TSB said I'm not eligible yet, yet I can issue a cheque for £250 and its guaranteed?
Please could any clarify, the banks take on the difference?

It's a form of credit. If they give you a cheque book and card with that limit, it's basically giving you authority to run up an overdraft of £250 times however many cheques you have. However, you shouldn't unless you have the funds available.0
