Tosh to you important to others, so sorry that you feel identity is of such little importance but that is your choice not mine.

You need Tesco to give you an identity?

Ok I appreciate I'm not english (or for sake of argument even british) - but why do you need the marketing on butter or other products to feel english? I'm sorry but I genuinely don't get it... I'm danish, I'm born danish and I KNOW I'm danish. I don't really care if they decide to start labelling products like bacon as "Scandinavian" instead of danish - ok infact I'd welcome it, maybe then there would be less comments about danish bacon when people find out where I'm from...
But my national identity comes from inside me... not from what the label on my food states. Ok so Ireland, Wales and Scotland want things to state Irish, Welsh or Scottish - big deal... :)

  • I don't think re-branding foodstuffs as British rather than English will do a great deal to increase sales in Scotland, Wales or NI, unfortunately. Won't do a great deal for English sales either. Seems all very pointless.

As a Scot living south of the border I don't buy food based solely on where it's manufactured/sourced. I buy it mainly based on value for money, taste, longevity ... all valid consumer reasons. It'd only come down to nationality if each product were very similar ... and when it comes to butter I invariably pick Anchor ... simply because New Zealand (and Australia) got screwed over by Britains membership of the Common Market in the 1970's. And my Ma still doesn't buy French apples because of the sinking of the Rainbow Warrior ...

End of the day if you don't like Tescos new approach then shop elsewhere. If you & others vote with your feet they'll soon take notice.

Very commendable unfortunately for many there is nowhere else to shop, sadly if things continue the way they are with Tesco that situation will prevail for a larger and larger proportion of the populace.

I know. I live in England so know I'm English. Why on earth would you need someone to write it on a packet of butter to help you with your identity?

If seeing the writing England/English helps you with identity then get your address tattooed onto your hand.
