I was born in England, to English parents and live in England, however, further back in my family tree my heritage spans Ireland, Scotland, Denmark and Italy.
Am i just 'European'?
As for the banning of Christmas, the primary school over the road to my house has banned christmas for years, its now 'Winter Festival' and my workplace is the same. We can't have christmas decorations, they are 'winter decorations'.
Hear hear!
I was reprimanded for putting 'English' on a government form - like GlitterKitty I am English born in England.. and I DO find it intensely annoying! Only a small piddly thing you may think? People born in Spain are Spanish - not European, same for Scots are Scottish etc - why are we not allowed to retain our nationality? I am a patriotic married mum of three who loves what England used to represent - not this cacophony of laughs that other countries now find amusement about. That is what we're becoming.
Lone had it in a nutshell, no-one in this country has respect any more. It's not just about labelling butter, it's much bigger than that. England has no respect and I confess I would rather blame old TB than it's residents, if it wasn't so easy to sit on the dole claiming away we'd be a stronger nation.. but that's another story and only the tip of a gigantic iceberg which I daren't go into...
I don't have personal issues with us not celebrating or being allowed to celebrate St. Georges day, it's the difference I can see in our country since growing up - witnessing the degeneration of respect towards our elders, lack of morals, dolies and so forth which honestly does fill me with regret. Now I sound like a puritan, but I'm not - I just believe in principles, and I feel strongly that England is losing it's identity and we're not helping it. I've brought all three of my girls up to respect their elders and call them Mr or Mrs/Miss - then that same 'elder' will say "Oh, just call me Jane" instead of accepting the respect the title gives them and encouraging the child to behave in an appropriate way toward adults. People then wonder why there are so many 'unruly youths' etc on the streets. There's a line between adults and children that many have been allowed to cross, and it's a major problem!
The government are minutes away from forcing us into Europe (I've never met anyone who wants to in England either) and adopting the Euro which is normally a currency below the strength of the pound - what will that do to our economy after the initial boon? There will be no chance for a referendum because they know we won't accept it - we're just playthings..literally puppets on strings who WILL do as we're told, because we live in a civilised community run by a Government who think; we all agree that they should put as much money in their own pockets as possible by giving the OK to stupid, stupid rules and regulations which are just tearing this country apart.
Wow.. dunno where that rant came from - but I feel better now. Feel free to pick the bones, I enjoyed posting it! :T :rotfl:No chocolate, cosmetics or clothes to be bought before xmas day 14! ~ NPower eBay target £541.670 -

Well this has certainly broadened from my original post, but Petrafyde that was an excellent post, the point in a nutshell, knowing that St Georges day is the 23rd of April is not the be all, but as you so rightly said its about principle and I do not wish to buy a produce that indicates it is British when it could have come from Lithuania for all I know and has earnt the union flag on it because it has been packed here.
