If your box is less than 12 mnths should still be under warranty. I am a sky customer and have been for 9 years. have full HD package, phone internet multi room etc. (no other providers)
Started having problems a few mnths ago with anytime. kept calling and calling got fed up and phoned and cancelled giving one mnths notice. Three days later got a call back and and a free engineers visit. New box fitted that failed within 2 days, engineer came back and fitted new box, explained last box was reconditioned. Sent e-mail complaint but no reply was received within 10days so I emailed again and explained I was taking the complaint to the next stage as per their complaints process.
Within 2 hours I had a further call. They gave me anytime plus wireless free (normally about £60) and equivalent of two months free full subscription. My box and equipment has full 12 mnths warranty.
Complain but be patient and follow their complaints process.
  • Hi, I tried what you listed below but when I switched the box back on with the back-up button pressed, the box was in standby and nothing happened. When I switched it to on, the normal start screen appeared and there was no mention of any back up. Releasing the button then did nothing.
Am I doing something wrong or is the HD box different?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Ok, I will make this as simple as I can to follow so everyone can follow it, not just tech heads…

First a little about sky+ and why it crashes
The sky+ box was rushed though testing as there was a massive demand on hard drive recorders, so sky decided to get on the bandwagon,
But sadly it had problems, the software the box used was slow and sluggish, the tiny processor inside the sky+ box could not handle the software and the recording of channels simultaneously, so Sky+ decided to use software that was light on the machine but was unreliable.
And so it come to pass, that the sky+ box was rushed in to our homes, but now sky is paying the price, and sadly so are we.
SO WHAT CAN YOU DO? I HEAR YOU SHOUT???

Update the machine! I recommend once every other month!

Follow these steps to update the software and clean the box to help make it more reliable…

1, Turn the power fully off to the sky box, from the plug

    2, Count down 90 seconds

3, once the 90 seconds have expired, Press and hold the backup button on the box, ((Keep it pressed until I say to let go))

4, Now restore power to the box, keeping the backup button pressed

5, After 20 seconds or so, The box will show an update screen, it will take about 10-15 minutes

6, Let go of the backup button and relax and let the box update, once updated you should see a faster, reliable system

Please let me know how it worked for you!!!
