if someone does manage to cancel because of the charge i'll be surprised, but then good luck to you if you do
You could've declined that offer and cancelled; the argument that they have broken the contract is legally sound, and we are free to invoke the relevant clause in the contract without any obligation to co-operate even if compensationary monies are offered. If the case was otherwise, the guy who wrote the letter would have been informed as such by Trading Standards (from whom you are free to seek advice independently), albeit it's likely a bit late unless you want to prove they misinformed haranged or otherwise bullied you into accepting their offer..0

Watch this space .... (ps : you would have been well within your rights to reject the proposal from 3.)0

I am posting the letter today. I have also emailed them at executive.office@three.co.uk
I have now had the following reply:
The Executive Office deal only with Regulatory Bodies and issues raised via Board Members
No probs, write to a board member by email:

This answers my question, my hubby bought me a '3' contract as a birthday present in August 2007, for 18 months, 3 keep on calling saying that I can a phone upgrade but I will have renew my contract even though its not up yet, as is the account holder he spoke them about this yesturday and they mentioned the cost of the paper bills, when he said he wants ebills instead they never mentioned a cancellation fee.
I was going to ask whether I should renew? but i'm not going to now.
must check the ebill when it comes inI have started entering competitions, lets see If I can win

I just called Three today regarding this matter and been arguing for more than 30 mins about this matter. They still insist this is not a variation, and the 1 pounds charge has been implemented since long time when i entered into contract, i keep refusing it, and they said no.
I am going to write a letter to them and send an email as well.0

Thanks the 1 pounds charge is totally unacceptable, it is not a money matter but principal. How dare they claim they sent the letter and I've been agreed to the 1 pounds charge since I entered into contract. That's awful and lie! the 1 pounds charge is totally unacceptable, it is not a money matter but principal. When i asked them to put me through the British Team, they said they only deal through letter.0

Belive me, I tried. I even tried telling them i'd changed bank accounts to one that doesn't allow standing orders and that I lived far too far away from the nearest 3 store to be able to go and pay the bill there.
I tried every conceivable angle I could think of and nothing worked - wrote to the executive office e.t.c., and nothing, so I gave up.
won't be renewing next year though so that's my small moral victory 0 0

Believe me or not, '3' is one of the worst customer service that keep insist their right. I keep asking them which terms of conditions that allows them to implement 1 pounds and they keep directing me to the price plan from the website that 1 pounds charge until October. I told them this is not a terms and conditions, and they keep insist saying it is! I'm really having difficulties understanding their accent sometimes and they talk too fast.
Oh god!0

i think that's one of the advantages for companies really, having people who's first language isn't english work off a script.
the order simply has to be "when customer complains, quote page 4, line 1 and repeat until customer hangs up".0
