Evening All. Thought I'd better make sure and post today as I like this thread, even if I'm mostly MIA these days! (Just wait until I've retired at end of term, then I'll be around loads -always supposing the thread stays as is!) Not too much OS in my busy day, but used up loads of leftovers over the w/e as can't afford to keep finding science experiments thriving in my fridge. Have also had to order new vacuum cleaner - both DH and a usually clever -at -that- sort- of -thing friend have taken the current model to pieces, cleaned any filter they could find and used old wire coat hangers to poke around its innards - and it still has no suction. So that's that, new model arriving soon.
(HUGS) to anyone who needs one today.Resolution:

When I was covering at my old school the kids were making pizzas. They just brought in ready made pizzas, and put mushrooms on, or peppers:eek:   Call that cooking!!! "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

My 3 year old ds does more cooking than that! He even knows about rolling out pizza dough. I'm so glad I learned to cook from my nan and Gran.
My mum never had time to teach me, but when I was younger I thought that was what grandparents were for :T . Mine taught me to cook, knit and do fancy sewing (some dressmaking but not keen!).
To carry on this fine tradition, ds goes for a story and a cooking session every Thursday to his nan. They make cakes or biscuits which are fairly edible. The fact that I am not required to help and can have 2 hours childfree time is not in any way a motivating factor in my enthusiasm for their cookery classes0 -
Evening peeps,
Redruby thankyou for your information about the thinnest marmalade in the worldno pectin in the nearest local shops so i shall try further afield tomorrow time permitting.
Welcome to Mountain Ash, Cornish pixie & Dragon Fairy
I`ve just had a mad run round in the kitchen to get it sorted and fetched the washing in whilst Mr Sunnyday walked the houndies. This afternoon we sat down with a cuppa and fell asleep  i`ve changed what we were having for tea as it`s far too late for a big meal so we had value curry sauce with oven chips and bread & butter, very tasty.
I shall pop back over to the "other thread" now to try and catch up but looking at the size of it i shall probably not finish it tonight.
Have a good evening peeps!
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Hello Everyone
Just wanted to introduce myself, I read the "other post" and posted a comment (not a mean one) then came here to see what all the fuss has been about and I have to say I think the thread is perfect as it is. All of you seem to share OS ideas and the support is amazing. I have enjoyed reading the post so much that I will hopefully be joining you all more regularly as I think I could learn a lot.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

DD&D Turkey Leg?I've never been tempted to buy one as I've always thought they might be a bit stringy. How are you planning to cook it?
Lesleyxx
Hi Lesleyooh I don't know now! I spotted on the 'what have you got in the S/C today'thread someone had done one as a casserole and I looove the dark meat on a turkey at xmas so thought I'd give it a whirl...BUT now have since been rummaging in my little :rotfl: stash of cookery books and think I may do a turkey and sweet potato pot pie ooh decisions
I bought a pile of Betty Crocker Bisquick when it was on for 38p (its back up over a pound now:eek: ) and on her website they have loads of pot pies made with a bisquick top.Very mouthwatering site that...
edited to add Bethebee have you an overlocker? When my kids were little I used to run round old towels and make little burp cloths with them for using indoors, that way I could save the 'posher' muslin ones for going out with.
I also bought kingsize flat sheets and cut them into 4's for cot sheets, saved us a few pennies too.0 -
I havent posted on this thread before but certainly read it everyday, possibly cos I am shy (hahaha) but have never seen any evidence of nastiness or cliquery (if you know what I mean) I love reading what you are all upto and wish that the people I work with were more like on here - I am sure they all think I have lost the plot at times!!!! Explained about cleaning out freezer and listing on the front what was in it - well what a hoot it caused - until later on when the young lass in the office said she should do that too as they have about 8 pizza's in theirs and not much else worth eating! What lovely it was coming home this evening and having the tea all made - as it will be all week since my cooking marathon yesterday! I hope this thread stays and will contribute more - I love being a nosy neighbour :-)Every days a School day!0

ravylesley and d&dd - I pinched an idea from the GC thread I think, prob Mrs M's as so many of the gems I pinch are! If you shred the dark turkey meat and serve with hoisin sauce and pancakes it's a really good substitute for duck - my kids think it's fab!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

I already bought an extra freezer this year with the intention of it only being on for 'fruit season' but its become rather..ummm full
If I have to make room for more jumbo turkey legs I'll have to have a mammoth jamming session :rotfl:
Anyone spotted oxtail for me yet??? My Mr T isn't stocking it neither is the big one up the road or sainsbugs I can't get any brisket either...whats going on *pouts*0
