hiya, well just waiting for my crb to come through if they happy with it i too shall be working for them. i would like to be in the role for at least a year before going ahead with the ivf. how will that affect my job do you know?? how much time do you need off? how are you treated by employer by having days off here and there to have all tests etc done? i know they should not discriminate etc but what about if you are constantly having time off? also do you know about maternity within the nhs? loads of questions sorry but i dont know anyone in a simular situation to me except for on this board thankyou xx:cool:0

wow...as much as 5k? that would have to be a loan job for us.
also, if anyone here did qualify for ivf on nhs..do you know a rough waiting list length? when i went a few years ago it was up to 2 years, i doubt this has changed much and as said prev i may well not qualify now as partner already has a child.
thankyou x
Re: waiting list length....I think it depends on where you live in the country. I was told by my fertility consultant that once we get on the list (after I have lost enough weight) we should only be waiting about 6 months.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. Well, because I work in the same hospital that I had my initial fertility clinic appointments,I just took the time off "for an appointment"
The IVF clinic is conveniently situated in the same Hospital (although it isn't NHS) So I've just been able to "nip for appointments" although most have been on my day off (typical!)My line manager isn't aware of the exact reason for my appointments yet - going to tell her next week, but generally they are very good for things like this.
At the NHS Trust i work for, there is a policy for people under going IVF,which states, you are allowed paid time off for the medical appointments and the time taken off during the actual treatment is paid as sick leave.
Maternity leave/pay is quite generous if you work for the NHS,you tend to get more than the legal minimum, but it may be different depending on which trust you work for.
Think I've answered everything, but if you've got anymore questions,(or I've forgotten anything) I'll do my best to help. X0 -
The waiting list in my area is 3 years.
As for the IVF appts, all appts once treatment had started were first thing in the morning, so I'd go to work afterwards.
There is no automatic paid leave for IVF (local authority) but I took a few days sick leave for the egg collection and embryo transfer, and then annual leave for the two weeks after that. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
thankyou both for your quick and informative answers, as i say i may or may not be working for the nhs but would still like to know these things in case i do! as for waiting times i really dont know as there is a massive thing going down at the mo with this areas 3 local hospitals as to moving things around, making one a+e from 8-8 and another appointment only its crazy tbh so i think there is going to be a whole load of mix ups until this all settles down.
also will have to find out if they will be making any changes with ivf like moving the 3 clinics into one or whatever their plans are. then waiting times will deffo be a lot longer. this darn crb has taken nearly 4 months now and i just want to know if i have the job so then i can settle into it whilst looking more into my ivf treatment, i cant start planning anything until this crb comes back its driving me insane!
rant over lol xx:cool:0 -

I am in West Yorkshire. We chose to go private rather than risk waiting that length of time. As you can see by my signature that was a good decision for us:DThe IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
