  • Yay!! Did they measure it? Is it really little? What do they look like at 9w?
Yeah, 2cm apparently! Couldn't really see a great deal of detail because I didn't have a full bladder but we could definitely see a heartbeat :D

Ahh, brilliant! I cried the first time I saw the baby, I really couldn't believe it!

I thought I was only 4 weeks, so they did the scan, and there was this massive thing which looked just like a baby! I couldn't believe it!

  • Morning!

I am 21 weeks today - hurrah! But that means only 4 weeks til I need to tell my employer what I am doing for maternity leave - do you think that they will accept that I haven't got a scooby

Last night I made my worst baby-brain boob so far...I took my contact lenses out and put them in the case and simply forgot to put any solution in the case...so this morning I had to put my lenses in to clean (they hadn't completely dried up) and I am wearing my glasses - which I haven't worn out of the house in over 2 years!

Which kind of raises a question - is it ok to give birth in contacts? I normally wear them all day every day and often nap in them...not sure that glasses would be an option with all that pushing and straining going on but I want to be able to see bubba as soon as he arrives... any thoughts or experiences ladies?

Hi MFD - I hadn't thought about this. I wear glasses and contacts, thought I can still see relatively well without them IYKWIM :D

I would ask your MW next time you see her, but I don't see why you couldn't wear contacts - but I'd have your glasses with you just in case :D

r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this response :p
  • MrsTine - I can't remember what they charged just for the base unit but I have the pricelist at home so will check. This was in The Baby Shop (?) in St Albans. If it is cheaper I will let you know so you can get JL to price match. I haven't found it anywhere else yet.

Hope everyone's having a good day so far!!

I am 19+2 today and for the last few weeks people have been constantly asking me if I could feel the baby yet and it has been getting me down a bit because I haven't been able to:confused: until today!!!:j I am sure i just felt a couple of tiny little kicks:D . That's just made my day and I just had to call OH right away to tell him the news. He is just as excited as I am and we both can't wait for my 20 week scan on Monday 27th so we can find out if we are having a boy or a girl. OH says he wants to be able to talk to "Baba" properly and call him/her by name. Let's just hope it's a girl because I don't think Matilda is suitable for a little boy and that's the only name we agree on so far.

    Yay on the kicking!!

I'm the same with names, I think the baby will be annoyed at being called Nathan all the time if its a girl!

SIL is pregnant too, and we aren't telling each other the names - we are scared the other will pinch them!

While we are on the subject of names, anyone got any opinions on mine? Nathan, Aiden, Conrad and Nathanial. OH doesn't like any of them! He just comes up with silly suggestions like Hitler etc.

  • MFD - You'll be fine with contact lenses, it'll be on your documentation when you're in labour in case you have to have a c-section but I wore my contacts in all three of my labours :)

FG - I like Conrad! I know too many Aiden/Aidan's and Nathan/Nathaniel just screams "spoilt brat" at me (sorry to anyone who knows/owns a Nathan/Nathaniel).

    hi everyone,

back at work today from my holiday, only 12.30pm and it now feels as though i have never had any time off. came back with some lovely baby clothes which i am excited about.

congrats to all the newbies on the thread and i will try to be as up to sped as possible, but i can't promise i will be able to catch up on the whole fortnight.

have my 20 week scan this week, so looking forward to that although hubby and i are at loggerheads over finding what if we are having a boy or a girl. He wants to know, I don't. I am threatening to go to the scan by myself if it stays this way as i really don't want to know.

MFD - as for knowing what to do maternity leave wise, i sympathise. I have an idea as to when i was to start mine, but no idea as to when i want to return

Started briefly looking at prams etc. I am struggling becase i want a 'pram', not just the stroller type ones that recline, so i am looking around. any suggestions would be good. Hubby wants one of the travel systems which i am not overly keen , but will compromise if it comes with a pram.

I have every intention of having a spoilt brat!

I like Conrad, but OH doesn't :( I can't think of any other names I like. Baby has to have three names, according to SIL - because all the posh people have 4 initials!

  • Tell OH he can complain about the name when he has to squeeze a melon out a gap the size of a 2p piece! All of mine have three first names too actually, Firstname Middlename ComedyMiddlename Surname. But that's because I'm cruel :D
