Candice56 - regarding moses basket, I would get one as cheaply as possible!!! I got mine for £15 secondhand, I used it for both my boys and i'm glad I paid so little, as they both only used it for a couple of weeks. In fact ds1 only used till he was 2/3weeks old (he kept hitting his limbs on the sides and waking himself up!) and ds2 was a clingy baby who hated being put down anywhere...he ended up going in it about 5 times in total.

This time I have decided not to bother at all with one and am going straight for a travel cot...much more useful in my opinion. I am just trying to decide betweeen two. The Graco petite bassinet, or the full size graco with bassinet...Hmmmmm

I'm a member of the NCT but didn't actually go on any of their courses. I couldn't justify the expense and went to antenatal classes at my local SureStart Centre which were great and included a tour of the hospital.

Remember to book your NCT course early as last year one of the ladies on this thread was only offered a course of two whole Saturdays which her DH wasn't impressed about at all! lol.

No snow here either! Not fair!

Having a clear out day here and trying to be ruthless by throwing out stuff I haven't used for ages and clearing some room for my new baby....but its so hard! I keep thinking oh, I can eBay that but then I will have to find room to store it until I get around to doing it!

Luckily they've put on an extra course here, I tried booking at 15 weeks for April and it was full!

My friend lent me her really expensive Moses basket when I had Poppy and I bought a new mattress for it. I have found that they do vary quite alot and this one was much wider than others so Poppy was in it for quite a while. We had a normal stand downstairs and a rocking one upstairs and carried her up in it at night.

I knew I had to give it back as it was required for another friend but at the time I knew I was pregnant again but couldn't let her know as I hadn't had my scan :rotfl:.

I was also lucky to get two other baskets from Freecycle for my Mum and MIL and bought new mattresses for them too.

We had a swinging crib in our bedroom and Poppy was in that from a few months old until 8m as I didn't move her into her nursery until then. I think they are much more value for money and will be used alot longer.

I'm not using a moses basket either (DD was in hers 5 mins, so I was glad it didn't cost me anything!)... I've decided that when we put the cot together I will leave 1 side off and just but it up to the bed so we'll be nearly co-sleeping... And my best friend has offered the use of a crib that she had for her boys which I will put in the living room... If it comes to it, my pram has a removable carrycot so we'll just use that... Be quite handy when we stay with the in-laws too...

On the whole NCT thing, I wouldn't bother, it's a lot of money for something that is probably offered free in your local area, and once the baby is born and you start going to local toddler groups it's amazing how quickly you make new friends!

I don't think I would pay that much for antenatal classes, but then there is no way I could afford that amount anyway.
I did attend some free ones locally when I was pregnant with ds1 but found there wasn't much time for making friends or chatting. I agree with Krystal you definitely make more friends by going to mother and toddler groups.

Although I did make one friend at antenatal, but we sort of fell out of touch when she found out her baby was blind and handicapped....I did try to keep in touch but I don't think she could cope seeing ds1 (only a few weeks age diff) developing well when her son wasn't!!! I suppose in this way it is better to make friends with people after the babies are here and you can see if the tots get along well too.

It is only just sinking in for both me and dh that this time next year we are going to be parents!

We went to the White Company today and had a look at the baby stuff, OMG:eek: , it's lovely, but soooooo expensive!

Then went to House of Fraser and my lovely husband bought me a new Radley handbag as my wedding anniversary present (It will be 2 years on wednesday). We went out to lunch as well, but was slightly spoiled by overcooked food and some kids on the next table who were throwing food, cutlery & menus around. Me and dh looked on all smug in the knowledge our children would never make a mess like that - because they are going to be angels:A , yeah right!!:rotfl:

i never had aa mosses basket with either of my girls i just had the crib which seamed to last longer then a basket would of. Downstairs they just slept in there bouncy chair or on there playmat, this time i might get one of the pop up ones that i can use for on the back of the kitchen table when im in there so i dont have to leave baby with the girls but not sure yet. pop up one so it doesnt take up so much room when not in use! The girls just slept in travel cot when we went to granparents etc...

as for the nct ones i have never done it but have heard they are meant to go into a little more detail then the nhs ones...but havent been so cant comment for myself. I had the nhs ones with first dd and it gave all the details i needed!
