well i thought i was having a good day but its all turned to !!!!. i manage to get app with the maternity reflexologist and im in no pain and can move!! its a bit of a novelty at the moment:D we then went to buy DS1 a pair of football boots as he told us last night he was the only one without real football boots in his training(santa brought them early but said they are for xmas really!) we nipped into MIL for cuppa and then headed to look at tiles for my bathroom.

oh got phonecall asking why he wasnt at test centre even though he hadnt had a date, they basically said too bad youve missed your chance and thats it? so all hormonal i phoned begged and pleaded and now they will put him through but want us to pay part of it? i have agreed and been sitting in tears all wound up about it. so after being all relaxed and chilld out im stressed and now skint lol! Oh was in a bit of a state too as he has been looking forward to passing his test and getting a new job! anyway feel better ive got that off my chest!

as for names we still havent decided although our 3 year old has named her Hope so who knows it might stick?

Rosies_mum those lists shouldn't affect things you've signed up for as the whole point is to stop unsolicited mail not all mail, but I am signed up to MPS so maybe some companies don't keep their bought and given info seperate so just remove anyone thats on MPS type lists

Anyone heard of Lotus births? I just stumbled across this idea and it sounds interesting. I guess I'm a bit of an earth mother as it doesn;t repulse me (although I think it would OH).
Basically, it is the practice of not cutting the umbilical cord, and instead allowing the cord and placenta to naturally die and drop off from baby, after about two days.

You wrap the placenta in a towel with sea salt and herbs to dry it out and prevent smells, and apparently the baby is sensitive to it being touched.

Obviously not for everyone - but what do you all think?

As I said, I think it sounds really interesting and I'm quite tempted.

Skinty I'm not 100% that they would let you do this here particularly in hosp, haven't checked your links tho. Its just I'm sure I heard something about peeps not being allowed to keep their placenta to plant it

Anyway I saw this on one of the million birth programs I've watched in the past Its not for me but it did lead to me making the decision to not cut the cord until it had stopped pulsating, also not very practical when your on your 2nd. I don't hate the idea tho so good luck if you decided to xx

i never even thought of the cord pulsating. would the baby feel the pain if it was cut when pulsating (please forgive my ignorance :p )

The stuff I'm reading says they cry out when it is cut, and make an argument for the cord blood (so rich in all kinds of things) being vital for the baby's development.

Now it is all a bit earth-mother-hippyish so I'm reading it with a pinch of salt as it were, but it does make sense. Apparently chimps don;t bite the cord or eat the placenta - they let it die naturally.

They also say (and again I don;t know how true it is) that the longer the cord is left before being cut the quicker it all heals.

It makes sense to me, but now I'm worried I won;t be allowed to do it (either by the hospital OR by my husband!!)
