Hi Ladies, I am 6+4 today and have my first midwife appt at 2.30 this afternoon. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Have been asked to take urine sample in but will they take blood (I am a fainter you see, every blood test I end up in a heap) and anything else?
I really want to know that everything is OK as DH wants to tell his family when we see them on Sunday (in case the kids jump on me which is quite likely) but judging by what people have said above I will only find out at 12 weeks (if its exact that is Xmas day!) or thereabouts which is unbearable thought for me!
Any info on the first appointment would be great
Thanks

i think i can understand the not being excited, i know i am going to be petrified (but then this is my first and i do not like hospitals at all).
as you are expecting to be late, maybe that's putting a hold on your excitement for the moment???

Hi ladies
Been to see my GP today and he thankfully did not tell me off for getting PG so soon after the mc, although he did have his serious face on. I said to him: "You have your serious face on; I don;t like that face.," and he said he was trying to read up on my mc before talking to me. Lol.
Anyway, he didn;t bother working out a due date this time, just said to get booked in with the mw asap and take things as easy as possible. Last time he said to carry on as normal but not this time.
I guess it's kinda lucky I was made redundant as I can just relax at home and take care of myself.
I booked mw for two weeks' time as she is only at my surgery once a week, so I should be about 7 weeks by then if the conception indicator on the PG test is correct.
I did another this morning to check that the homrone was increasing and it said 2-3 weeks since conception now which would be 4-5 weeks in doctorese but I'm really unsure of that date.
So now we have a dilemma about whether ot have a private scan. The company sent me a £10 voucher today so one in the week would be £75 in the week, but they don;t have doctors there, just sonographers.
There is another in this area that's run by a proper doctor but she costs £105 a scan.
Really not sure what to do now! My GP said 'this one should stick' but of course there are no guarantees and a scan would reassure me on that day but I could still lose it later I guess.
Anyway, I'm rambling now! Hope everyone's well and congrats to Bargainholic on such a beautiful baby.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Hi
My MW tested my urine, took some blood, and talked to me about family history and where I wanted to have the baby which I hadn;t even thought about at that stage!
She won;t be able to tell you if everything is OK - they don;t even give you an internal round here, just weight you, take your height, talk to you and do the blood and urine tests.
First scan will be somewhere around 10-13 weeks so there is ages to wait! Unbearable isn;t it?:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Just a quick hello ladies - I am run off my feet, worked for over 10 hours on Sat and Sunday and I am spending the day as a member of a judging panel for an awards ceremony in a couple of weeks. Not sure that any of the presentations are actually going in but I think I have managed to ask a few incisive questions!!
Thanks to saverram for the pillow bargain - ordered along with a blue fleecy bubba blanket!
Bargain - congrats again, glad that you and charlie are okay. He's a smasher!!
Last night hubby and I broke out the copy of Wii Music that I had bought for DSS for christmasto take my mind of this bl00ming report for a while. Whilst hubby was jamming I was tapping my bump in time with the music and talking and singing along to bubba and bubba started kicking me back :T :T :T
I think I am having a genius!!!
Of course, I cried
Catch you later - hope everyone is well!

Im feeling a little down today....I had a bleed on saturday ( brown blood ), which seemed to settle down. Then yesterday I started having pains in my stomach, now I know you can with pregnancy and I dont know if im panicking because of the bleed but it worried me. I again have spotted this morning...again brown blood and very little really. I tried to ring the midwife and im unable to get through so ive made a docs appt for the morning.....
You have no idea how much im praying this is going to be okay xxDS Anthony Steven 07.06.92DD Becky Emma 24.01.94DD Rose Grace Jean 12.05.090 -

Hi Reety
We have discovered on this thread that its completely different depending on where you live. At your stage of 6+4 we would never be given a 'booking-in' appointment, simply a routine chat with the community MW.
When I was around 6w I saw the MW at the surgery who checked my wee, did my BP and 'put me on the system'. The MW then refered me to the antenatal unit and they sent me a letter with a date for my scan and booking in, which are both done on the same day around 12w. Its only at this stage that bloods, family history, BMI, etc are taken.
Its a really personal thing about when to tell people. DH and I have kept my last two pregs to ourselves until the 12w scan due to me m/c my first baby. I couldn't go through the whole world knowing and then having to be told the bad news IYSWIM? Far too stressful for me.

Make sure you explain to the MW that your a fainter and they should lie you down for bloods and help you to get up slowly in stages
I've declined tests this time but I think I'm going to have type n cross match one at 28wks as that one is important if I were to need blood after the birth, I can't face having it yet need to build up my strength0 -
Skinty - I'd phone them up and talk to the sonographer at each place to help you decide. Neither of mine were medical places, but are near hospitals and have arragements in place, and will liase with your team, if need be. My first scan was before I'd seen a GP or a midwife, and they were very reassuring and helpful. The most important thing I needed was reassurance. Luckily the first place I went to fit me in on a Saturday morning with no notice! Think she could tell be me crying down the phone that I desperately needed a scan. You could also ask about the qualifications of the sonographer. What would a GP be able to offer you that a fully qualified sonographer wouldn't?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0
