Tine, have you tried the bounty website? When I had DD there was a bit you could fill in to say you didn't receive yours...

TBH with all the stuff I've done for the breastfeeding charity I'm a bit sceptical about all the free stuff they throw at mothers to be now... It's all about getting their brand into our heads rather than letting us make an informed choice...

That said, there was a fantastic changing bag sized pot of sudocreme in one of the bags I got (could of been on the post natal ward) that was perfect for the changing bag!

Oh, and incidentally, I'm feeling a lot better... Hungry in fact... and for this time of night, less sick than I've felt in weeks! Hubby's in the kitchen making me some jammy toast bless him!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Caz call the docs tomorrow - they might even refer you to a physio - I know the physio I went to before getting pregnant get a lot of pregnant referrals due to back pains and she said if I had any problems during pregnancy to get doc to refer me again (But then I am on BUPA :) )

Krystal I didn't notice anything about "I haven't got mine" but I did send them a mail through the website earlier so maybe they'll send it direct to me :D

Milliesmum - I think the triple test is later here... round about 15 weeks? I might have got that wrong so I'll have a look in a sec at the plethora of info in my folder :) So many tests!!!! ARGH! They could make this all a little simpler for us poor ladies suffering pregnant brain syndrome! :rotfl:

As for freebies... I have to agree - but then I'm an MSE mum to be ;) I'd only go and buy it if it was good value and I'd use it :rotfl:

Good news is that so far today my nausea has been controllable - despite reducing my cyclizine down to 1 a day before bed time - did it my accident yesterday, plum forgot to take my morning one lol - and did it on purpose today and although nausea is a little worse it's not unmanagable... cross fingers it lasts!

Any idea when I should get a sexing scan done? The last place I went to won't do it till 20 weeks, is it worth trying to find somewhere else to do it?

I'd wait for the 20 week scan... i think it's done then partially because it's just too hard to tell earlier and because they need to scan you around then anyway... but if bubba doesn't fancy showing off you might not be able to find out the sex anyway... if it doesn't get into the right position they can't tell what sex it is :)

  • All went well at the hospital today! Even my BP behaved itself. Hopefully the antibiotics will do their stuff and the pain is already easing off :).

Oh, MrsTine, that would really irk me about the Bounty bag! However, I've registered online with them and they mailed a coupon out automatically even though I received a coupon from my MW. When you do get it try and collect from Asda as their bags include MOC's (recent one was £5 off £15 baby products). They are worth having and its very MSE to try before you buy! :D.

But I certainly agree that the Emma's Diary pack is not worth dashing out for!

Hi FG, they couldn't tell at our 20w NHS scan with Poppy so we went here:

    http://www.beforethestork.info/packages.html

They do sexing scans from 17w if you really can't wait! :D

Not sure where abouts in the country you are but they have branches in Liverpool, Preston, Manchester & North London.

    Maternity Leave
Very much a matter of personal choice.
With my first I had 3 weeks M/L and 2 weeks hol before she was born - and I was climbing the walls by the time she arrived a week late. I had sorted everything in the house (not nesting, boredom!) I was used to leaving the house about 7.30 am and getting home around 6.30 pm and found it hard to adapt. i spent my 36th week up a ladder (in Nov) wearing cycle shorts and a crop top (not a pretty sight!!:rotfl: ) stripping wallpaper from the nursery to redecorate!

With my 2nd (still working full time with just over 30 mile away each way commute) I worked until a week before due date. DS1 was a week late. I spent first week spending lots of time with DD and then 2nd week settling her into her new nursery (around the corner from home - previous one was over the road from work) as she went for 2 short days a week whilst I was on M/L to keep her in the swing & give me time to catch up on sleep when DS1 was sleeping (he was a poor sleeper and still waking 4x a night when I went back to work when he was 7 mths old) I then went back for 3 long days per week.

With my 3rd I was working 5 mornings a week (change of job) and had planned to start my m/l on 20th DEc (day school broke up and I was working in a school - due date 2nd Jan) but I had SPD we'd just moved house & I couldn't cope & started it on 2nd Dec (meaning I actually got my xmas shopping done) - oh and I had 11 people for dinner Xmas day - & I cooked!!

This time around I am self employed on a part time basis but am actually doing very little work at the mo (I'm now an aromatherapist & credit crunch has hit bad!) I have a feeling spd will recur at an earlier stage (I've already had a couple of twinges) which will finish me off work wise then!

    Nuchal scans etc
Here you get a free dating scan (appx 12 weeks) and anomaly scan at 20 weeks. If you want a nuchal it is £180. If you have a nuchal you can't have the dating & double blood test (12 & 16 weeks) - even though it is in the same dept with same staff!!
I am having a nuchal (I'm 38) - but am going to Bristol to have it done. It is £196 there, but their detection rates are better. And this way I also get a dating scan & blood tests free. Pah! I will have my 20 week scan, but for those who wantto know the sex, I have never found it out at this one. With DS2 they thought he was a girl at 20weeks! I will also have a 4d scan with babybond (had one with ds2) - about £250? but well worth it!

I have my dating scan booked for 5th Nov and nuchal for 6th Nov - we are on holiday from 23-30th Oct & then it's still school hols for a few days, so it made it hard to fit appts in (I am hoping to keep this secret for a while longer - although have already grown :-((

Anyway, enough rambling from me! Hope all are well as can be expected (I've been sick 4x already today!)

  • The comments yesterday really got me thinking about maternity leave which is made even more complicated by the fact that my contract with my current company ends on 31 August when bubba will be 6 months old. As yet I don't know what will happen to me after that but it is looking highly likely that I will have to tender for my position as a consultant  .

Anyway - with the 31st August in mind (I think I will need to go back to my company for 1 day to hand in my laptop etc!) I think I have decided to finish 2 weeks before EDD - although with a 45 min commute each way I may have to work from home for a while beforehand (which I should be able to do for a few days a week anyway).
I will then have 28 weeks at home (4 of which will be using up annual leave entitlement) before I officially finish with this company...what happens then god only knows! Especially as the tender is bound to be due in around the time that bubba arrives!!!

Still at least being pregnant has put it all into perspective and I am not having sleepless nights worrying about it - I will get a job somewhere, I have been offered a couple of positions for more money recently so it will all work out in the end!

To the point of my post - hubby runs his own business and last night he told me that he is intending to take some time off with me and bubba after the birth...which is lovely - but he is intending to take at least two months off... Is this a good bonding opportunity or is it a recipe for disaster?
It may not happen (the best laid plans never do!) and he will still have to do some work to keep the company ticking over and make sure that his lads are performing on site but in theory we could be together with bubba 24/7 for 2 months or more...:o

    Any thoughts?

just from my personal experience so far-my hubby had 3 weeks off and to be honest its better now hes back at work and we're getting into more of a routine. i now have to cope by myself in the day which came as a big shock i admit. i posted in the parent club about my worries and problems etc.i can now say im more confident as a mom, now ive had to cope if that makes sense. i also look forward to 'home time' and we get to do our bonding and stuff in the day alone. hope that makes sense...typing one handed....elliot wriggling...lol :p

  • My OH went back to work 2 days after we came home (had been in hosp a week and he was off then) and I was petrified but actually I'm glad he did cos it made me get to grips with coping with the baby on my own.

If he had been off 2 months it would have made it a lot harder when he actually did go back but everyone is different and maybe it would be nice for you all to have that time together.

Although on the other hand at that age they don't do much and it might be more fun for him to take that time off later on, when they get more difficult (but also more fun).

That wasn't much help was it?
