Trying For a Baby II

3. I agree with you. An ectopic is in the tube so I can't see how they would see a sac in your womb.
When I had my scans in Oct due to one sided pain (no bleeding) the initially saw a sac and that was just under 5 weeks, then the next week we saw a sac with a yolk in it but by the next week the yolk had gone so downhill (but I had no bleeding at all at any stage and my HCG went 16000+).
So at this early an empty sac is normal.
I had a suspected ectopic until they saw the yolk, as a pseudo sac can form in the uterus even if the actual sac/fetus is in a tube or elsewhere where it shouldn't be- so they would be looking to see if anything forms in the uterine sac over time and monitor the HCG levels- nothing in sac and low levels (from what I can find only up to about 2000 or so max, but not an exact quote as I was looking more than a month ago) or levels that are not increasing very much (definatley not doubling in the time they should, ~2-3 days below about 6000 HCG) can be indicative of ectopic (there doesn't have to be bleeding). However the consultant said that as there was a yolk present with mine, that it was definately a uterine pg (just a bad one) however there are rare cases (1 in 30000 he said) where there are twins, one in uterus and one ectopic, but doesn't happen often (I asked!).
In my case my HCG went as follows:
4169 09/10 (5wks 5 days) empty sac ~5mm I think
5254 11/10 (~25% in 48 hrs) (6wks)
5500 13/10 (~5% increase in 48 hrs) (6wks 2 days) ~10 mm sac with yolk
8541 15/10 (~55% increase in 48 hrs) (6wks 4 days)
16000 20/10 (~94% increase in 96 hrs which is acceptable for this level of HCG) (7wks 2 days) but sac was empty in the end and still growing (~20mm & yolk had disappeared) but at this level a fetus should have been visible.
Hope this explains it a bit more.0 -
Question to MyAccount08- how much grapefruit juice do you drink a day and when do you drink it? I have started for about a week now (yuk!) and having a glass in the morning to take vitamins etc but that is it, should I be drinking more through the day to help increase CM? Ta0

My end, I'm having a bit of a moan really, this is our first official month without protection of any kind and it feels like OH has got cold feet all of a sudden, he's not keen on getting down to the act at all now and i don't want to make a big deal of it because i don;t want to put pressure on him and make it worse but I can;t get pregnant if we don't do it!!! I've been waiting for this for so long I couldn;t bear for him to get cold feet now and i have to go back to waiting again....I know there's nothing you guys can do but I just want to cry...
Hope you're all ok, or at least doing better than I am!0 -

For some reason men can be a bit funny about actually making a baby, DH is as keen to have another baby as me but when it actually comes to bd he starts to overthink it, the good news is they do eventually get passed it as my DD shows.
Although I know the feeling of wanting to cry as you don't want to put pressure on them to bd but you want a baby more than anything. If your earlier enough in the baby making process try not to over analysis it and just have fun.

No bother, it's just a shame that we learn these type of things by having to go through the stress of being suspected of having them (if that makes any type of sense!).
I can only be grateful that I didn't have an ectopic in the end and managed to avoid a laproscopy by the skin of my teeth- due to lack of communication within the hospital I went to (undue stress that could have been prevented if someone had told the consultant that there was a yolk there at one stage!! Was called back in less than 24 hours after being discharged as not having one!)0 -

Snap, mine was the same- he wants to have a baby but when we started trying to BD he seemed to have a subconcious block and could not "seal the deal" IYKWIM! I was very frustrated and so was he as he knew I would be disappointed (so he was pressuring himself a bit). It is very hard not to pressurise them, I try my best, but they should have a bit more info about the whole lack of being fertile for the majority of the month and timing is important.
I am a very logical person and I like to be organised so I am in an all out regime with this ttc lark so I am maybe not the best person to advise about subtle ways (DH knows about the every other day thing and I warned him there will be a request for 4 nights in a row if I get a + opk due to the SMEP etc so I am actually very rubbish at the no pressure thingoops).
But if you monitor your cycle and you know roughly when you will be fertile, then don't say anything and maybe have a nice meal and a wee bit of wine (not too much!) and watch a film (with some sexy scenes to get him in the mood!) and then pounce!0 -
Thankyou Ruth and Lizzie! The awful thing is that i am keeping track of my fertility quietly and not mentioning it at all but he still know's what's going on, especially because I've stopped smoking and am urging him to as well it's jsut a constant reminder to him of what we're doing, so he's just avoiding the act really, telling me he's tired or something....I know one thing that got to him was discovering my ovulation sticks....maybe i should never have bought them because now he's thinks i've gone mental and obsessive about it which to some extent i have but he was supposed to still beleive i was all chilled and relaxed about it....
oh poo...maybe i should just accept it's not going happen this month...i should be getting a positive on my test sticks today i think....so that'll just make me feel even worse....
...it's not fair.....

Hi Lizziebell, thanks very much for sharing that information with us, I hadn't been able to find it anywhere else. I'm the type of person who likes to know exactly what is going on - it makes me feel more in control .
My boyfriend stopped getting it on as soon as we started TTC, he said it was too much like it was a task he had to perform but he though it should just be natural. Men just have no idea . It took a while for him to get used to the idea but eventually he did. I wasn't even counting days at that point so hid it from him when I was. It was quite a shock to go from getting poked every morning to being the one to have to try to initiate bd! At least we are back to normal now on that front but no sex because I'm worried about the effect it will have with my bleeding - sorry! you probably didn't need to know thatMum to DD born Oct 2009

Well DH knows I am a bit mental at the best of times
If he says anything about the test sticks etc and being mental I think I would just empasize that it is better having an idea of what is going on with respect to your fertility through the month as us ladies only have the short fertile window whereas the men are technically fertile all the time!
So you are not being mental, just sensible and informed- with this info, hopefully the BDing will not be required for longer than absolutely necessary and he can then relax
