  • Wow some really useful info on here. Will have to look out for some Tigerbalm for headaches- I'm sure I've seen it in Boots before.

Does anyone know whether rescue remedy is ok to take whilst pg?

Trying so hard not to symptom spot but if I tell you I've got sore boobs and have woken up at 4:30am for the past three mornings feeling sooo sick you will know that I am failing miserably! Aargh......:p

I got a stick from Boots called "4head", some blurb from the website:

Smells like Vaporub, or similar, and you just rub it on your forehead. It does help me a bit.

I got this as am also headache person (used to be on meds for cluster migranes etc etc and was getting killer tension headaches when doing my PhD thesis and those neck muscles have never been the same since).
Tried it the first time and followed instructions (think it says to rub it over forehead once), but couldn't feel anything had happened so rubbed it lots of times and then it all kicked in at once, aaaahhhhh! Felt like when you eat an extra strong mint then breathe in very cold air or drink something very cold, it was so awful I ran to the bathroom and was trying to wash it off :o so my point is to not to rub tonnes on :) I haven't ventured near it again......

And I stopped taking ibuprofen now as well - I thought as it is not to be used while pregnant, I will avoid it while TTC. I get a lot of pain during AF usually and general killing headaches, but now I just suffer and try to ride them out without any medicines if I can. I will take aspirin if it is really bad, but not that it helps with the pain really, jsut makes you feel easier that you ctually took something and must be helpng with pain. Just psychological, I think.

Apparently aspirin is in the same group of drugs as ibuprofen, so if you are going to take aspirin you might as well take ibuprofen if it works better.
Personally I'd think aspirin is worse to take than ibuprofen as aspirin is a blood thinner.

I'll still take ibuprofen for severe period pain but try not to use it once AF gone.

I still have nightmares about my PhD thesis, which I have changed to MPhil as I couldn't stand it anymore. I am thinking what if I pushed myself to PhD, but I know that I made right decision to stop it there and then as it was making me sick and depressed. The best day ever when I got rid of them and university! (And used to love studying - PhD sucked all the happiness out of me and I think I was depressed for 80% of time while there!)

    What about paracetamol?
I saw some info that aspirin might be helpful in conceiving:
    http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/howto.htm

And it seems there is a study on the go to determine that:

Also, have a look at at this:

As for taking aspirin whilst TTC I found this site....

    http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/isitsafeto/aspirinexpert/
which says this **A few studies show that taking aspirin around the time of conception and in early pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage**

And this site was particularly helpful as it mentions both Ibuprofen and Aspirin http://www.cks.library.nhs.uk/patient_information_leaflet/infertility#

**Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) - long-term use, or a high dosage of NSAIDs, like ibuprofen or aspirin, can make it more difficult to conceive.**

Hmmm now I'm confused. The info in your links and mine don't agree.
Oh and paracetamol is ok to take at any time. I asked the midwife when I got my first pos.

There is so much contradicting information that you simply cannot know what to do!!!!!

    I totally agree.

I think though I'll only take ibuprofen for period pains and not for the rest of the month. I'm going to try and get some Tigerbalm for the headaches so that even though paracetamol is ok to take I can hopefully cut them out too.

It's safe to take codeine (in small doses) during the first 6 months of pregnancy. So if the pain is really bad you could try Solpadeine Max, or similar. I wouldn't take it too often, but it's good to have an option if you are feeling awful.

If NSAIDs need to be avoided, you should also avoid Feminax ultra as that has naproxen which is also an NSAID.
  • AF has arrived so I'm out for this month. Nevermind at least I knwo I have a 32 day cycle so it'll be less stressful next month;) . Wouldn't it be great if i got a BFP on the 21st Dec, fantastic christmas present for my family. :j Good luck to everyone else.
