what very sad news, you're so very brave to share this with us all. I can only try to imagine what you must be going through. I'm sure you probably have had all the tests and second opinions before you have come to this point. The only thing I would say is has your prolactin level been tested? I had no periods for over a year and was sent for scans where they said I had pcos tendancy although not anything to worry about. However my GP was very on the ball and tested my prolactin something I've since discovered is not that common, and I'm incredibly thankful she did it. Anyway it lead me to being diagnosed with a pituitary tumour and within 4 weeks of being put on the medication my periods returned. I only mention it incase it can be of any help to you. I wish you all the best.

Kencokenco - Very sorry to read your post. *Hugs*

Aless02 - Good luck and fingers crossed for you. When I got my first faint positive line last Saturday, I also had a feeling I was pg as my bbs were feeling very full and sore and my belly also felt kinda larger, lols.

Well as u already have seen, I am still staying on this board for now as it is so early days in my pg I dont feel ready to move boards yet. Hope you dont mind!! I went to see the doc tonight, although he didnt really do anything, said Im about 5 weeks (from date of last period) and to book a midwife appt for a week or so's time.

Thankyou all for your knid words, they really do help.

NIcki and Becs Yes it was with the gp. the GP ushered both my partner and myself in to the surgery were it went a bit like this. He scratched his head giving a little uncomfortable look while checking his computer screen monitor, at this point I knew it was not good. He then went on to say " Unfortunately looking at the way you have responded so far to the treatment given, and the drugs prescribed, I feel there is no more we can do to help you. Your pcos is at the highest point for the disease and your chances of conceiving now are under 1%. I am truly sorry for the devasting effects this may have on you at the moment but am sure with time you will find it a lot easier to cope"

    Yeah right

He then said BUT for the time being I am prepared to offer you counselling to help you during this difficult time.

With that he shook both mine and my partners hand and ushered us out of the room.

Becs I have not had prolactin done but when I did ask about that I was informed it was not neccessary to check that with me.

To be honest im not at all happy with the way we have been treated, it is even harder because my partner who I have been with for just over 14 yrs, met when I was 17. (bless him) has got it in his head just under 1% is better than a 0%, but I keep telling him No it is the same. But bless him he is still clinging to the 1% chance.

I suppose it is hard for him too. I just feel useless and a total failure at the moment.

And I suppose it doesn't help when I see all these young mothers coming into the pre-school where I work moaning about accidentally falling pregnant for the 3rd 4th and 5th time and then moaning about how they are gonna cope with all this children at 23 and 24 etc.

Well that's my moan over with today. I hope you dont mind me ranting on hear, but to be honest I have no-one else to talk to about it.

Well will catch up with you all again soon. and thankyou ALLLLLL so so much for your kind words they really do help.
    thankyou;)

Kencokenco: for your own peace of mind, you really do need a second opinion from a consultant gynaecologist who specialises in infertilty. Your GP may be right, but he is not an expert, and in general GPs aren't very good in this area. If nothing else, a consultant will have seen all this many times before, and will have read a lot more of the research papers on the topic.

If you are 31/32 (hope I did the maths right!) you still have time to try to conceive with medical help. If you leave things for 5 or so years, and then decide that for peace of mind you want a second opinion, you are drastically cutting your chances of success.

And your husband isn't completely wrong to hold out some hope. We were told this time round (after we'd been trying unsuccessfully for almost 2 years) that our only chance of success was IVF with ICSI (and that even with this our chances of conceiving were about 5%). 2 months after being told this we had conceived naturally.

The other thing which I would recommend (have done it already on this thread) is to read the Marilyn Glenville book "Getting Pregnant Faster". This has loads of information about different fertility problems and how diet and lifestyle changes can help to partially alleviate these. She doesn't guarantee results, but again following her recommedations, the different problems suffered by both me and OH (which included PCOS) were improved enough to allow us to conceive.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. If your GP won't refer you on the NHS it is possible to self-refer privately btw, and an initial consultation probably wouldn't break the bank, though privately funded treatment can be exorbitant! However, if you saw someone privately who disagreed with your GP's prognosis about your chances of success with help, then there would be a strong argument for you then to be referred for NHS treatment if you are otherwise eligible.

Ah Kencokenco, I really do agree with Nicki about seeking a second opinion from an expert. It seems like they are focussing entirely on the PCOS which it could be but there could be other causes which make the PCOS symptoms appear much worse. I really would push for full tests such as the prolactin because it could make the world of difference. It must be an incredibly hard decision to even begin to come to terms with. You may feel that you really can't do anymore at the moment but remember in the future if you haven't explored every single possible avenue can you live with that? The dr's have spent the last year telling me it's because of my tumour that I haven't conceived, they did give me a gynae referal but she said exactly the same that until the tumour was under control they couldn't do anything. Now I've been on the meds for 10 months and levels are normal I have pushed more tests and a referal from my GP. They find a problem and they're happy to accept that is the only problem without exploring further. I really wish you all the very best and hope my post can help. If nothing else the prolactin test is a very simple 30 second blood test which may lay your mind at rest.:grouphug:

Hello, can I join in please?

We've been ttc since Oct last year, when I came off the pill.

My partner is getting really down, because I'm not pregnant yet, no matter how much I explain it just doesn't happen like that all the time.

I'm currently awaiting the dreaded AF, she's due within the next couple of days. :( No symptoms as of yet.

Hope you don't mind me joining.

    Hi everyone, another newbie here!

Hope this is the right place to post, apologies if it's not - please could you point me in the right direction?

I stopped taking the pill last year because DH and I wanted to start a family. My periods have always been really irregular, and still haven't settled into a proper pattern after stopping the pill. So far my cycles have been 49 days, 35 days and then 27 days. Now I'm on day 32 and think I could be pregnant, but as I don't have a regular cycle I don't know when to do a pregnancy test! When do you think I should test?

    Many thanks :)

Persnally I'd take the middle length, 35 days and do a test on day 35 if AF not shown up by then.

    Good Luck

Thanks for your advice, Shelley. OMG - 35 days is tomorrow!!

I'm really new to this, we've only really been trying this month so we'll be incredibly lucky (and very surprised) if I am pregnant.

I've heard that you can do some pregnancy tests before your period is due - can anyone tell me which ones and whether they're any good? If I work on the assumption that my cycle will be 40 days (cos I haven't got my period already) then testing in the next few days would be before that period is due, so one of those tests may be more accurate than one you can use when your period is late?!

    Gosh, so confusing!!!

mrsmb, I agree this ttc lark is extremely confusing.

I tend to take each day as it comes.

I came off the pill in Oct 08, and since then my cycles have been between 3 and 6 weeks.
Today is CD28, and the symptoms I've had are lower back ache, and tender nips. I'm tired, grouchy and have an insatiable(?) appetite. So I don't think she's too far away. :(
