old style...means doing things like it was done years ago..back to basics as it were.
cooking from scratch, no fancy cleaning products, planning meals, using less electric...in general budgeting better.....

  • Ahhh, thank you Dogrose! Sounds right up my street. Had a bonanza at Asda today- lots of meat going out of date, and reduced veg, so a freezer full of stew tonight!

Got the kids to plan and cook tea today, which was a major win/win situation. They enjoyed it and felt very responsible and grownup, and I got to read the Sunday paper for once! :j

They had a fun adventure last night too-sleeping on the living room floor with all the camping gear! Loads of fun and it didn't cost a bean!

    Night all,

    Hi,
I'm normally in bed at this time of night but can't unwind after having a long conversation with my DB2, he has to go to hosp tomorow to see Consultant. He went to Drs. on Friday re the Melanoma. DR phoned the hosp (whilst DB2 was sat there) and was told that a few of the growths has to be looked at asap. DB2 just phoned me wanting to chat, be assured, ease the worry, sound off, etc.
He still has not told his kids that he has cancer. They are loosing patience with him because of his depression and drinking. I have told DB2 that he ought to tell them.
    Anyone got a magic wand??

Well........ I did get some OS things done today, ,,,,boiled up left over veg peelings, skined some road kill to make a pair of gloves, hung out used tea bags to dry for re-using, emptied vacume and used contents to make cushions, oh yes,,, and platted some recycled newspaper to make a lampshade. Just trying to do my bit.

    Off to catch up

Evening, I've read the thread, but my pooter kept kicking me off [STRIKE]someone needs to [/STRIKE]

I've taken a load of rubbish to the tip and had a mooch round Asda, oh the excitement :rotfl: I did manage to get a couple more of the fleece/throws, chocolate this time, so I think with 5 I'll have enough now. :D

I've made [STRIKE]a mess in the kitchen [/STRIKE]some Rocky road, although I think it was a bit too buttery  it will be fine with a dredge of icing sugar.

Beth, gold star for your OS efforts today :T Personally, I've made a lovely stew from earthworms and grass.
Do you think that DB is waiting for someone else to tell his children. I must admit that I couldn't even begin to contemplate telling either parents or children that sort of news. It must be so difficult for the people who do know having to hide something like that. How is DB in Spain going on, is he having treatment?

Love and hugs to all The Twit. :grouphug:

ps...Marie, I'd have rinsed the steak under the tap ;) (although with Ulick, you do have to be careful what he eats I suppose)

You know Twit...that was the first thing which sprung to mind, but it was DD2 who found it, she hates cats, insists that they are all, and Luca in particular so didn't dare offer it as a solution....if it had been well cooked it might have been ok...still, maybe Luca needed the protein!

    Beth...:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I am up so late as I decided at around 10 that I would make a quiche, some twinks, apple tart and pear frangipani ( well that's what I call it!) and am just waiting for quiche to come out of oven....should have been more organised and everything could have been cooked more quickly

    Night all, sleep well

    Hi,
WHATATWIT and CANDY, No I have promised that I will not tell the family about DB2's cancer. I did however manage to get DB2 to tell DB1 because I thought DB1 could help as he has cancer as well.
The fan keeps turning and we all end up covered.

    EDIT
Whatatiwt, DB1 in Spain is not receiving any treatment at the moment, apart from having to be monitered. They, (who know best?) have said his cancer has to get worse before he can have treatment as the treatment may cause more damage.
