  • ok i know i have mentioned it before but i have decided i will now give it a go.... selling well worn items on ebay. my friends mum sold a pair of worn white sports socks with a tear on the sole - they weren't even an actual pair (2 odd socks) for £8 plus postage!

i have so far got a pair of worn tights on my turbo lister so just need to gather up a few more things. the only thing that i am worried about is that it will affect my other 'normal' listings. should i create a new ebay account for these worn items?

what are your general views on this? at the start i felt it was wrong (morally for me!) but I suppose the people buying maybe have foot fetishes or could be cross dressers or a number of other tings! so i am now fell i am not doin any harm providing items for them to buy!! what a moral dilema lol to begin with!!!!

I would certainly open another account as ebay will get funny with these sales and you don't want to risk suspension on your main account. You also need to sideline the ask seller a question comments you get to a hidden email address as they are likely to be the sort of questions you don't want other family members to read.

If you use a seperate account once you get a couple of warnings stop trading there and move to another account. The trick is not to let yourself get too many warnings on the same account and get suspended as once you are suspended on one account you may not use any others without the risk of a lifetime ban.

    The ebay policy is here:

    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/mature-audiences.html

It doesn't matter how you word something if someone, anyone, considers your listing adult and complains then ebay will probably strike first and ask questions later. Also, before anyone says these are not adult items, ask yourself why people buy them if they are not. The rules are quite ambiguous really in particular these two prohibitions are open to a lot of interpretation:
    • Any materials clearly designed to sexually arouse the viewer/reader.
    • Any items which, because of their nature or because of the item description, appear to be designed for use in sexual/adult activity.

  • thanks lexx & soolin

i have seen little footnotes on some worn items that state there is no adult/sexual content within the listing. I will give it a go - no harm in tryin i suppose!

It doesn't really matter what you put on the listing. if someone considers it adult and reports it then ebay may well pull the auction and give you a warning, hence setting up another account for this item. If you look at the sellers you will see most have only a few feedback and sell mainly via websites, they do that because they know they don't get long on ebay before they lose their accounts. If ebay is important to you then you might want to consider what you will do if you get suspended and can no longer sell.

After all if it wasn't meant to be adult then it wouldn't sell.

  • thanks soolin - i hadn't thought of it like that but it is a very valid point.

I suppose I will have all weekend to think about it - and i will have to consider the hassle of setting up a new ebay & paypal account - could always do it in oh's name just in case it did get suspended (he doesn't use ebay or paypal)!

If you decide to go ahead then use a female sounding name as your user ID, something cute. Also, use throw away email addresses and you'll need new bank details etc of course as you can't use the same ones on two different ebay/paypal accounts.

Also make sure you list quickly and for short auctions, the idea is to get sales before you get reported and try to avoid getting suspended. Once you get one warning or downgrade on your seller dashboard close that account and start again with another. Do not let yourself get suspended on any account as otherwise you endanger your main one. Remember people aren't going to report you for breaching rules they ar elikely to be reporting you for selling the same items they are, so will report anything, however inoccent it is.

It is not illegal in the UK to sell adult items, it is just that ebay rules are open to interpretation and whilst I think certain items are safe enough to sell you need to be very careful you don't overstep the line into selling stuff that they prohibit. To understand how fine a line it is I had a warning on a rarely used accountof mine some years back for selling shoulder length velvet gloves as ebay considered that to be an 'adult auction!

While you consider this start watching some similar auctions listed over the past day or so, see how many get to close without suspension, that will give you an idea as to which areas are the most likely to lead to suspension.

I would never encourage anyone to break the ebay rules, but this is such a difficult area to judge on and seems to depend on which ebay member looks at the reports. Th eone hting to rememebr at all times though is that used clothing is only allowed on ebay if it is sold freshly laundered. Used underwear is 100% prohibited, washed or not so avoid anything that could be considered underwear, entirely. I'm not 100% sure if tights are underwear...again it is open to interpretation.

Hi all, hope your all well
Well ebay for me at the min is a bit sloooow. found i do better at weekends,
Ive listed 5 items today for 10 days and will do so again tomorrow.
Ive got 18 items listed at the min with watchers on 6 items
Funny i listed an item today and got 2 watchers on it within 30 mins of listing it.
Money in pofit so far ( just paid my fees) is £23.41:T

Just thought do you think its best to pay fees as you go along when listing things and people have paid up or just wait for your bill from ebay ????

I do the postage through paypal then im not using my money, got myself in a right stink last year going to the postoffice

It wasn't me it was Lexxx - I'm the prude from this conversation a while ago. I'm sitting here cringing at the content of this discussion - used underwear

fizz26 well done. I pay my eBay fees when the bill comes in. It comes direct off my credit card. I also put all my postage on my credit card. I use the money in Paypal to pay for it all and then take the remainder as profit (although I never have more than £50 in Paypal)

  • ops thanks floxxie! - edited my post

soolin - i thought that pants would be banned (understandably) but i have seen a few auctions where it is a female selling a bra (and wearing it as a demo!) i think this is OTT as i wouldn't be modelling any used items. thanks though you have given me a lot to think about. and here i was reaDy to jump in feet first!!! thankx xx
