  • Hello Floxxie. Thank you for referring me to this thread. Hopefully my motivation for ebay will go up a bit now. I think you're right, get it over and done with as soon as possible.

    Aha, the link worked then?

Welcome to our challenge. Think the history of it is on the first page and yes you can join/leave/rejoin whenever you feel like it.

We're just a like-minded bunch of people who want the clutter cleared from our homes and converted to cash. Some of us love eBay and some of us hate it (it doesn't take long to work out what group I belong to!)

So an update from me - I have done NOTHING yet apart from had a breakdown yesterday and withdraw from my course until later in the year. Realised that with illness and sad things before Xmas, I was way behind on my studying, the house was even more of a tip than I remembered it becoming and I hadn't started on my mission to get rid of the junk. So today, once I have finished my surfing and daydreaming and I can persuade OH to take the 3 kids, I AM going to get on with things.

Challenge for the weekend: list every single book on either eBay, Amazon GreenMetropolis. Will tally up the total on Sunday and report back.

Was also reading a thread this morning (was up til 4am) on selling CDs to some Magpie site so will start on this next week. Apparently Play are offering the fees back on the first 10 items you put on before 31 Jan. Didn't really look into this but will have to soon.

Does anybody know if carrier bags will sell? I've got some from the Disney Store and Eurodisney and was wondering....?

I'm also going to be relisting my Rosemary Conley magazines - hope there's lots of takers this time of the year!

    Catch up later.

    Morning!
I haven't done anything with ebay either and looking at my bank balance today made me realise i need to get moving. i did sell a few unwanted gifts on play last week was great to get the fees back! so the plan for today is to tidy and start filling up the ebay box once again and start listing tonight.

Floxxie i've sold a lot of paper carrier bags only for a couple of quid but better than nothing. its always worth trying. and your Rosemary Conley mags are bound to sell with so many people on diets now its the new year.

    right, best get started!

It was me. Here's a cut and paste from the eBay site:

Maximum limits on P&P costs for select categories

Starting 27 January 2009, limits on P&P charges* will be in effect for select categories. These maximum limits apply to the first flat-rate postage service within or into the UK. Sellers are required to offer at least one postage option within the maximum limit and may also offer other options above the maximums for courier or international dispatch. Sellers can still use the Courier for bulky items option if they are selling an unusual bulky and heavy item. * Note: As of 13th October 2008, the maximum P&P costs specified below are subject to change.

Hello! Good luck with this challenge!

I've spent the evening looking at musicmagpie - has anybody used them? I don't know whether to sell my CDs direct to them or risk Amazon or Play. Lots of things to consider (and it is much more exciting that Most Haunted - is anybody watching it? It is rubbish; amazing that the mics can't pick up anything. Grrr, should really stop watching it)...

Will catch up tomorrow - will be listing my books then (hopefully!)

That's really interesting on the ending dates and times. Will have to experiment with altering my end days.

eBay should also be my main source of income as I no longer have a paid job and my maternity pay has finished. Will try really hard this year to get it going.

What do you do about items that don't sell tmd? Do you just relist until they do? Do you start many items at 99p?

Hands too cold to write anymore so off for cup of coffee...

    Hi Floxxie

I've been selling my girls Next clothing that doesn't fit any more and have not done too bad on those, January seems to be OK, things that don't sell I tend to leave for a cheap listing day.

Will be getting serious and listing lots in a week and a half when DD2 goes to Nursery 5 afternoons and DD1 goes full time school in Reception class, she is only doing half day at the moment until 19th, then I'll just have DD3 here and will get her to sleep so I can get things uploaded to Turbolister (she's 8 months). I'm looking forward to having a bit of time to get on while the eldest two are out of the house.

How old is your little one? It's hard going from having a salary to having nothing coming in but the little bit of CTC and Child Benefit, I can't get a evening or weekend job because my OH works shifts and two weekends a month so Ebay is my only source of income which is why I went Self-Employed as I buy wholesale to resell.
