    Hi

If its not too late I would like to join you. Dont think I could manage 10 a day.........maybe 5? Not that I dont have a whole ton of [strike]junk[/strike] valuable antiques to list, just that unless I set myself a realistic target I know I will get bored!

Ok now for some questions...........have never listed on ebay before, just purchased. How do I work out what to add for postage? Also what happens if something doesnt sell? Do I still get charged for listing it? Also is it best to list fictional books on Amazon or somewhere? Sorry for all the questions!

    Thanks
    Linz xoxox

Welcome Linz - will add you to the first page for 5 items a day.

If you have books definitely look at Amazon and GreenMetropolis as they are the easiest places to sell without paying fees upfront.
Re eBay - you just need the means of taking photos. Either open an account and download Turbolister (the listing tool) or alternatively choose ebid which is a competitotr but not as big but doesn't charge as much (think details are in spam.jams posting above somewhere).

eBay - yes you do get charged for a listing regardless of whether it sells and you also get charged once it has sold. To work out postage, get yourself a pair of scales, weight item, estimate packaging (I tend to put 200g and then refund if too much) and then use https://www.royalmail.com to check out how much it would cost to post. You just put in the weight and where you are sending it to and it does the work for you.

    Good luck!

Ebay aren't charging insertion fees for auction listings on Sat 18th and Sunday 19th for items with a starting price of 99p or less. I'm going to save all of mine up and list them then!

  • Hi - have just listed another 5 items on amazon - one was a box set which I put on for £820!! - it is what the last one went for - pay a chunk off our 10th anniverary church blessing (FIL was very sick when we got married, and died the next day. had to cancel the blessing which was going to be in the Netherlands. Think its about time we did it now!!)

Im leaving the ebay stuff till the weekend, to reduce the 10p listings payments!

My last round of ebay hasnt gone smoothly - one buyer from singapore, an echeque which took 2 weeks to go into my account, a late payer - 9 days and only after dispute started, an incomplete address, and now I sent out an item to the address on ebay - she moved, didnt change address and now wonders where it is? (so do I!) - waiting for the neg feedback...
Oh and have gone down to 4.6/5 on p&p - I try to be +/- 15p of cost, and have to queue for 30 mins in new and improved post office. Im going grey, but promise to keep at it!! rant over! lol
Off to collect little ones from school. Bye!

Aha, the reasons why I hate ebay so much! Re the buyer with the wrong eBay address - did she pay with Paypal? Was the address the same as the one on eBay? If so I would report her for incorrect details.

Singapore - I always worry when I have to send abroad however I have more hassle with UK buyers and that includes echeques - most buyers don't realise how long it takes for an echeque to clear - I sold a 1960s toy gun for almost £400 and there is was the echeque payment - ahhh the memories!

Singapore are great for some of the wacky items - which reminds me - who has listed the wierdest item this week? Mine have been very tame!

Postage - I tend not to charge anything extra and I am failing on postage - you can't win - a lot of them think it relates to delivery so comments like 'delivery a little slow' when it was posted an hour after they paid really get to me. Roll on running out of things to sell!!

Looking forward to relisting some of my 99p items in a last attempt to get them sold, otherwise they can go to car boot. Sorting out clothes tonight so not sure if I am going to have time to list - nevermind will play catch up tomorrow night.

Have listed lots on Amazon today but need to concentrate on eBay which is my least favourite but one where the money should be made.

By the way what kind of DVD box set are you selling for that amount?!

  • Thanks Floxxie for your support.
I have bought on ebay for about 2 years - always pay instantly and behave myself!
I started selling in early september - those were ok, but, with not being able to leave real feedback for buyers, I put on 8 items - 6 have been not straightforward!
For postage, I only charge for the actual postage and the cost of packing materials - have managed to reduce it by using the mailing bags, but can be out by 15p in either direction. Im hoping that my 4.6 is due to delivery times - 1st class so it can be variable.
Im waiting to hear back about the incorrect address. She wanted the tracking no - the item only went for £4 - hence 1st class. I sent to the address that came from ebay when she paid.
Im looking forward to running out of items....but happy to ebay in the meantime.
For the box set - its under Truffaut. It cost an arm and a leg at the time, and I love one of the cds, but I have the actual dvd's and would be upset if one of my littleies found them. Rather sell to someone else who really wants them!! Another is Visage - really wanted it, but found it rather boring (must have partaken of falling down water at discos where I heard it)! lol

Am going to take lots of photos tomorrow ready for the weekend!!

    How is everyone doing?

evening all ;), its good to see that there are more joining the challenge..it is hard to list 10 items per day, so its good to see some of you going for less a day, if you are only putting a few items on for the first time ever, once you get a bid or two, thats when the buzz kicks in, you find yourself checking your auctions at all times through the day, just to see if there have been any more bids, or watchers....;)....thats the incentive to start listing more and more each day.....i know, been there, still doing it ;). i try to aim for at least 30 sales per month, . more or less equal to 1 a day through the year.......if i sell more, well, thats a bonus.......if they dont sell the first time, relist them, its free for the 1st relist.............good luck to you all.......and dont forget, even if what you are listing seems junk to you, there is nearly always somebody out there who will want it.......and its an idea to look at buying job lots, espcially books, cd's , dvd's.......if they are within pick up, go for it..........if you have the time, you can nearly always at least double your money selling them 1 at a time..........just an idea.......but its one iv tried out before, and i trebled my money.....ok, i dont make a lot, but its the thrill of doing it,,, especially in the long cold dark winter nights......and any profit at all, is much better than a loss..........have fun on the challenge, dont take it to seriously......because you may get a bit deflated if you put all your hopes in to it.......just treat it as fun, av a giggle and make a few quid........;)

Evening. Well done to everyone listing so far. The weekends free listings will be a huge incentive for me so will be upping the anti in the next few days.

I am 5 down on my challenge so hoping to list 10 tonight to get myself back on target. Have a few bits photographed and ready to go so in theory should be easy enough.

Need to have another rummage round the cupboards tomorrow to see what I can find.

Yes Please i would like to be part of this challenge:j

I am trying to get my house in order, i wish i could say i was half way there, but .... i have a long way to go!!

I have taken quite a few pics of clothes and shoes and was going to put them all on ebay, but glad i read this thread first:rolleyes: , think i will just aim for 15-20 a week,to start with and see how that goes.

Just a couple off question, does anyone know how much photo fees are on ebay?

Even though i have used paypal for a number of years, i have not been verified, which i have just sorted out today. Can i sell stuff on a personal paypal account?
