An Old Style gesture of support for Martin

Martin was clearly more knowledgeable than Jon Snow and more articulate in his responses.

I agree. And he was matched up with someone designed to elicit maximum viewer sympathy, even though this chap had not invested in Icesave by following Martin's advice - or at least so I gather.
And for goodness' sake, how many highly specialised people have given the same advice? Martin should not be singled out for not being perfect. Nobody knows beforehand what bank is about to fail, as they do fail so quickly as we have seen.
Anyway Martin is getting a lot of flak on his thread at the moment, and I wouldn't want to be in his shoes right now.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
this is the first time i've posted on mse despite being a member for ages. i do feel the need to comment since i think jon snow (who is considered a respectable journalist) was rude and biased in his report. i also consider using a person of disability was deliberate in order to add gravitas to this bias. martin, you can only guide and inform and you do that very well and for free. if people are that concerned and have excessive amounts of money then they should pay for information which then gives them a valid right of reply and complaint. you are brill martin!!!:T0

The interview on Channel 4 news was totally biased and a set-up. An able-bodied man, Martin, representing the financial websites and a disabled man in a wheelchair who had invested £150,000 in Icesave. It was designed to evoke major viewer sympathy - the little guy losing his money because of bad advice.
But this was not the case - the disabled man was a retired solicitor, so more than capable of making his own decisions and from what I read he hadn't even heard of moneysavingexpert.com
No-one can blame Martin for the Icesave debacle - every financial website, every newspaper "best buy" table featured Icesave, as it seemed a good deal at the time. No-one could have foreseen what happened.
So keep up the good work Martin and the team. You have helped many of us get out of debt, enabled us to reclaim bank charges, shown us new ways to earn money (reward sites etc), made me addicted to competitions, helped us build up savings - just to mention a few of the ways you have helped people.
All the best for the future to Martin and all the team and don't let anyone get you down!Don't wait for the storm to pass

I could't believe how Martin was treated !
Just remember Channel 4 is responsible for that heap of rubbish show Big Brother!
If they think that that interview was fair and unbiased it wasn't.
I am so angry - why don't they crucify the Fat Cats instead of those who are honest and are trying to help the ordinary people of this country.
Chin up Martin we will all support you!         :mad:Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Martin was possibly too polite. Jon Snow was not.
It was Jon Snow's programme and, as he had not done his homework, he was ill-prepared for the sensible, honest answers that Martin gave. I hope that Jon Snow will do his job in future and prepare for interviews more carefully.

I had to stop watching that interview!
Poor Martin, it's not his fault!
Personally, I've saved thousands with the help of him and this site. Because of him, I went to the Financial Ombudsman, and sucessfully sued my Endowment mortgage company. Because of him, when I paid off my mortgage, I got £75 overpayment back.
Martin, there are a lot of people out here who are grateful to you, and IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT!!!!!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

John Snow is the sort of eejit who gets proper journalists a bad name . He obviously wasn't listening in the all important lecture that teaches - "The most important questions in journalism are: who; why; what; when and how?" None of these are any good if you don't wait for the answers. The man is an embarrassing bully.
As to those who have blamed Martin, i.e. those with more than 50k in one account  who stand to lose out. They should have known better than to have all their eggs in one basket - something you won't find on the 'Old Style' forum. If they had really followed Martin's advice they would have known this. One can only assume that pure greed blinded them to the warnings. What a shame
I do feel for the charities who have lost out. Hopefully they will seek better financial advice in future, since they are investing money that is freely given, often by those who can least afford it.Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Thanks for the link Floyd. I have thought before that Jon Snow was a bully. Despite that, it seemed that Martin was able to justify his advice quite well, and re iterated that he had told people not to have more than £35.000 in any one bank. I have seen this on the home page myself.
It doesn't effect me a person with no savings and I am sorry for anyone who's money is frozen. I hope they will all get it back.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:
