I didn't see the interview either, nor do I want to.

Martin you are a real star and there must be thousands of us who would love to give you a great big hug at the moment.

Financially we have turned our lives round and this is due in a big part to everything we have learnt here. As a result we now have savings. Some of which was with KE, but that will be sorted. We took Martin's advice - spread the money around and made sure we were covered by FSCS. What more could have been done in these mad, mad times?

Keep on smiling and remember you have made a huge difference to an awful lot of people. :D:T
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D

I just wanted to add my voice to this - Martin's advice and this site has saved me a considerable amount of money and an even more considerable amount of stress. In the 2 years that I've been posting here (lurked a while beforehand) I've managed to pay down my debts, to the point that I have a debt-free date in sight. I opened an ISA today, and for the first time in my adult life I have savings and I know I don't need them just to get by! My current account is in credit all month - admittedly, not by much at the end of the month, but still, I'm managing. But above all of this, having this amazing resource here means I'm no longer scared to tackle my money; I can come here for information and advice, and I understand how it works so I can choose how I act. This sounds really cheesy, but I think I would have hidden from these problems if I hadn't found this site, and now they're not problems any more! Jon Snow would have understood, if he'd seen the site, that all the advice comes with an assessment of the risk, and no-one's being irresponsibly advised to put money in dodgy banks. We face a global recession, and scapegoating the man who's trying to help the average consumer (rather than the overpaid banker) is downright foolish.

  • :lovethougEvery time I come on here, and I do so most days, I find myself saying out loud, "Thank you, Martin".

Thanks to Martin I've saved money, made money, reclaimed money - but more than that I've enabled our family to be happier and less stressed [if Mum's not happy, NOBODY's happy :rotfl:], to have better meals, nicer family life and to be better placed to help others.

    Martin, thank you.

Pay it forward and we all win. :grouphug:

  • Thank you Martin, you have made such a difference to our lives since I found this site.
Ignore what ignorant, uninformed journalists have to say and just remember the huge support, help and guidance that you have brought to thousands of us - we would not be here without you.....

I would like to say I have watched the show in question and I was so embarrassed for Jon Snow getting it so wrong..

Martin has published all the warnings and TBH (and in my own job) It's very easy to be wiser with hindsight - the crystal ball option isn't all that accurate IMHO

    Thank you Martin - MSE

Martin has gone further than anyone else in this country to educate the public on financial and consumer issues. Why Jon Snow felt the need to do this is frankly beyond me. Has he got bad ratings? Or bad researchers? Or did he perhaps just have a day of bad journalistic judgement?

Goodness knows, but Martin, you're not the one in the wrong. If you weren't here giving inpartial (and excellent) advice, who would most of us be listening to right now? Um, the banks. I don't imagine they'd have been encouraging to spread our risks somehow.

Thanks for the link, I've just watched it with interest. My feeling is that Jon Snow was very emotive on the subject, maybe he has had his cash stashed over in Iceland? Martin came across very well, and those of us who understand his efforts will remain supportive. Jon on the other hand looked ill informed and aggressive.

Whilst I'm fortunate enough not to be in debt anymore, MSE and in particular OS has taught me how to live within my means, and be more financially aware.

I hope Martin realises just how much support he has, and how grateful so many of us are for his excellent advice.
