I've just spotted THIS post which gives details on how to obtain instant free Gold status with Hilton HHonors. Might be worth it if you have a Hilton stay coming up. I signed up and it worked a treat.

Gold VIP Membership

To Qualify

Hilton HHonors Gold VIP membership will be awarded to Members with 16 stays*, 36 nights* or 60,000 Base points earned during any calendar year. A "night" is a night that is part of a "stay," as that term is defined herein. Base points earned will count toward Gold VIP tier qualification. Bonus points earned on Base points do not count toward VIP tier qualification.

*Eligible Rate stays are stays at all rates except wholesale/tour operator packages, contracted airline crew rates, complimentary or barter rooms, stays on NET Group, Series Group or IT Group rates, contracted Entertainment or Encore rates and stays using airline percent-off award certificates. Stays that are booked via third party websites are not Eligible Stays irrespective of rate paid, for the purpose of earning points, miles or stay credit toward VIP tier status. Stays booked via "opaque" channels where the brand is unknown at the time of purchase are not Eligible Stays for the purpose of earning points, miles or stay credit toward VIP tier status, or the receipt of VIP tier benefits such as upgraded accommodations / amenities or access to health clubs. No point or stay credit, airline frequent flyer mileage credit or credit toward tier status will be awarded for "no show" situations when a member has made a reservation guaranteed with a credit card but then does not check in to the hotel--irrespective of whether or not the member's credit card is charged for any portion of the reserved stay per the hotel's "no show" policy.

Gold VIP On-Property Benefits

My Way On-Property VIP benefits welcome Gold VIPs at Hilton Family Hotels worldwide hotels. Choose from high-speed internet access, space-available room upgrades, and other great options. Your choices at each brand are listed below.
Learn about our updated Executive Lounge access policy for Gold and Diamond VIPs.
Sign in as a Gold VIP member to pre-select your preferences by hotel brand at select properties.
At Hilton®, Conrad® Hotels & Resorts and Doubletree®, choose from:

• A space-available room upgrade, including breakfast.**
  You will be upgraded to an Executive Floor room (where/when available) at time of check-in. If an Executive Floor room is unavailable, you will be upgraded to the next best available room from the room type booked. Upgrades exclude suites, villas and specialty accommodations. At hotels with Executive Floor lounges, if an Executive Floor room upgrade is available, you will also receive access to the lounge. In addition, you will receive complimentary Continental breakfast for you and up to one additional registered hotel guest each day of your stay.
• Enjoy complimentary high-speed internet access, each day of your stay.
  At hotels that already offer a choice of a standard or higher-speed connection, you will receive access to the higher-speed connection at no cost. If a hotel does not offer high-speed internet connectivity, simply choose another option.
• Earn 1,000 Hilton HHonors® bonus points per stay.
  A great way to maximize your points earnings.

** Executive Lounge Access Policy


If you select a space-available room upgrade as your on-property VIP benefit, the following policy will apply effective August 15, 2008, at all Hilton®, Conrad® Hotels & Resorts and Doubletree® hotels:
If you are a Gold VIP, you'll be given access to the Executive Floor lounge when you receive a room upgrade to the Executive Floor. If an Executive Floor room upgrade is unavailable, you'll still receive daily complimentary Continental breakfast in lieu of lounge access.
If you are a Diamond VIP, you'll enjoy access to the Executive Floor lounge, even if you don't receive a room upgrade to the Executive Floor, including daily complimentary Continental breakfast.
At hotels without Executive Floor lounges, Gold and Diamond VIPs will receive complimentary Continental breakfast for themselves and up to one additional registered hotel guest each day. If breakfast is included in the room rate, you'll receive an alternate welcome amenity that varies by hotel.
At Embassy Suites Hotels® choose from:

Gold VIPs choose two:

• Sweet Tooth (two Candy Bars)
• Two Bottles of Water
• Two Regular Colas
• Two Diet Colas
• Two Regular Lemon-Lime Sodas
• Two Pieces of Fruit

At Hampton Inn® and Hampton Inn Suites® choose from:®

At The Waldorf=Astoria Collection®

At the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, La Quinta Resort & Club and Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa, Gold VIP members will receive two bottles of water per stay, a welcome amenity on night of arrival AND their choice of one of the benefits listed below.

• One category room upgrade (excludes suites and the Napua Tower at Grand Wailea and the Imperial Room at Room Cavalieri). If a room upgrade is not available, member will receive one of the remaining options.
• Discount at select resort facilities (may include spa, golf, restaurant, etc.) OR access to the Colosseo Lounge when staying at Rome Cavalieri.
• 1,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points.

At the Waldorf=Astoria® hotel in New York City, Gold VIPs receive two bottles of water per stay, a USA Today® newspaper or local paper delivered to their room each weekday AND may choose one of the following benefits.

• One category room upgrade (subject to availability). If room upgrade is unavailable, member will receive one of the remaining options.
• 1,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points.
• A choice of either a full American breakfast at Oscar's American Brasserie each morning or two complimentary beverages each night of the stay.

At Qasr Al Sharq in Saudi Arabia, Gold VIPs receive two bottles of imported water per stay, daily complimentary pressing and daily complimentary Internet access.
Conrad Maldives Benefits:

Due to the very special nature of the accommodations at the Conrad Maldives we are unable to offer upgraded accommodations. However, we are delighted to offer Gold VIPs the selection of Package 2, during your stay:

nice.... i was sneaky, and reregistered, as my existing HHonors card has 0 points on as i haven't stayed at a hilton since my last stay...

now, at least i may get an upgrade when i stay at one next month.. w00t

Im not eligable as I stay under airline rates, but it means that I can get a freebie breakfast and papers when at Hilton

Thanks so much for this post. I was just going to book my stay at the Hilton Dubai Jumeirah for next year as there is a special deal, so now I will have a great upgrade to Executive room/lounge as well for no extra money.
Is this deal works it has just saved me over £250.
