finally some success on my book R&R, after being fobbed off with a price difference refund, I wrote a letter to the store and Tesco Head Office quoting their policy. received £10 off each, who promised it was a mistake and that I should have been given a R&R.
here are a few things I have learnt:
    * cashiers are trained to double check the price. If a book scans at £10 but it says £8.97 on it, they are meant to check the price. Any R&R is recorded with the cashier's operating code, if they get a few of these they are probably called into the office.
    * CS will always offer the price difference option first. That way they are no longer overcharging. Some people will accept this and walk away. It is up to customers to remember the price policy.
  • Dear Old Ben is back, probably spent as much as Tesco as he has saved, still makes him feel good heh.

It's been reduced to £149.97'ish now in Watford

Damn! They had them in Yarmouth priced at £149.99, locked in the glass cabinet on the Electricals dept. Didn't even bother asking for one, as they probably go through at that price now.
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

Cashiers will only get spoken to if the r&r is given as the result of a double scan, not if its mispriced
    Titch :)

If an SEL is out of date.... say the offer ended a week ago.....is an r&r still the order of the day?

Yes but in my experience it can be another piece of ammo from CS you have to batter against. I tend to avoid them if the price is also on the pack (i.e. meat /kg vs SEL /kg) as IMHO it's a pain to argue against having gone through the whole /kg explanation.

If it's the only price visible and they start to go down the "offer has expired" route then I find the following question always cuts them dead:

"In that case if the offer has expired, can you show me where the current price is displayed in an unambiguous, easily identifiable and clearly legible manner as legally required by the Price Marking Order 2004"

    Never failed an R&R yet!
