If the policy is now at the store managers discretion then it's not a policy that should be advertised as though it is fact. The managers discretion? what's that all about then? They could say yes or no depending on whether they've had a tea break recently or not! They should either have one policy which applies to all or not have a policy at all. Shows how flaky the whole thing is if you ask me. Tesco has already been shown to have little regard for whether they overcharge their customers or not...seems to me that they are trying to wiggle out of the mess they are getting into by having the policy there to look good, but not using it in practice.
There have been lots of managers toes stepped on when their decisions have been 'over ruled' by HO in recent months - I imagine it's caused a fair bit of internal hassle with noses out of joint hence the shifting of the decision to local managers discretion.
Another case of passing the buck....and the saga continues....

Rang the Head Office this morning, who is ringing the manager involved last night and getting back to me.

Apparently, on the 21st November 2005 the board decided on a policy change. This means that it is now due to store discretion if they give you this policy or not!

The person at Head Office has also had to go and ask her line manager if she is able to override the store or not.

Dont want to doom and gloom people, but this could be the end of this freebie!

Waiting to hear from HO ... what do I say if they refuse now?!

Sounds like one of the long list of excuses - I'm going to Mr T now to get petrol and I'll get a R&R from the store for the hell of it - will report back if my store plays up!

    Take her easy,

If it does go over to Managers decision - then they might as well scrap it all together - WHAT manager is gonna say yes to a £200 R&R when he can just say NO

Been shouting for 45 minutes to get it, Stafford refusing the policy.
They found another ticket with it listed at £26.97 which was close to it, but at the end of the day it was SEL at £14.97.

yeah, but that poster is plain stupid :-( there WAS a ticket explaining the correct price, this is one of those times he should have walked away

ah well, idiots arguing semantics like that spoil it for the rest of us
PLEASE, just leave that one and try for another, you win some, you loose some, i've not won any yet and i've travelled over 100 miles trying!, i'm not bitter tho

  • I remember seeing a discussion here some time ago about whether you had to give your name and address for R&R, anybody know what the consensus was?

Indeed for a refund anywhere, are you obliged to give these details? TIA

    I've been Money Tipped!
And surely they should say it on here as well that it's at managers discretion.

highguy- ring them back and query why your local store, nor the website has reflected this change in policy.

Thats exactly what I thought. This is what im going to say when they ring back. There is no point in this policy if it is upto the manager, none of them are going to effect store margins like that!

When I asked earlier well why doesnt it say this on the policy, she replied "it wouldnt" ... lol. May push that a bit further ...

I read it differently - that it is up to each branch whether they implement the policy or not, rather than up to each individual transaction. So, if the signs are up, you will get R&R. After all, unless the signs have small print qualifying the policy, they are legally bound to honour it in all cases.

There is no reason whatsoever for this information to be requested unless it was supplied at the time of sale and is done so for comparison purposes. You are not obligated under any law to do so, the request itself is in breach of the DPA in any event.

R&R is a nationally advertised incentive and Tesco are legally obliged to fullfill any request that falls within the promise or face action with regards to ASA and Trades description, this is why those who are persistant yet polite will always get a result.
This applies irrespective of whether or not the offending store is displaying the poster and there are no conditions attached to it publicly to advise of any managers discretion in the matter. Your arguement should be that the policy has affected your buying decision.
