Anyone used Sell Student Stuff.com

  • Hi I have used Sell student stuff to sell 3 books and payment took ages for all 3. Every time I had to email them to ask where my money was and only then did I get paid.

    But now I am really annoyed because they have owed me £22 for a book since before Christmas and every time I tried to get in contact to ask them for my money it said their service desk was down and to try again another time, I finally managed to message them and the next thing I know is the Website is closed!!!!!!! What a complete joke. Has anyone got any advice or know if we are going to be able to get our money back?
  • Wow, quite a large group growing here :S, you can add me to the list of unsatisfied customers. I'm still owed over £60 from last year, was actually going onto the site to send them an email threatening legal action only to find that they've removed it! I called the Insolvency Service this morning and they have no record of them having gone into liquidation, I wonder what's going on.

    Someone who knows the legality and procedures about unfair business should write us a good guideline (or webpage)... so that many others can google and find help.

    The reason why many people won't do anything is because of the court fees of small claims (£30). If one is owed around £30 or under then it does not seem worth the hassle to file a small claim.

    But if everyone teamed up with an accumulative sum... then we have a bigger case which will likely go to crown court.. with us paying a smaller court fee in total.
  • Its beyond a joke, i am waiting for £30 which i probably will never see, but i am a student i was expecting that money - its made me really angry, a few days before they shut down they messaged me saying they will pay me shortly - yeah right!?! i have no idea how i can claim this money back that is mine!!!

    Am really fed up with SellStudentBooks and hearing lots of others woes I decided am going to file a small claims against them at my local county court. Sure it costs me £30 fee, but I get the court fee back if I win the case... (unless SellStudentbooks really did go bankrupt... but others say there's no news about them bankrupt).

    To get more information:

    jammy sod! ;) I actually found that I didn't make very much money on the ones I did sell - because they were so heavy they cost a fortune to post - one book which cost me £60, I only made a profit of about 50p! I guess that's my lesson not to price them so cheaply in future though! - whoops!!

    don't post them through royal mail, post them through parcel 2 go they come and pick them up and it costs just under 8 pounds
    :T:T :beer: :beer::beer::beer: to the lil one :) :beer::beer::beer:
  • Sell Student Stuff are back up and running after going bust and paying none of their debtors. A company called Capital Ideas Retail On Line Ltd are now up and running with all of the old e-mail addresses and previous book lists and previous sold data, so clearly someone made a buck selling the company assets.

    I have had no feedback from the new company as to whether the two sharks running it last time are still involved. I will be taking my books off the list that is for sure. Once bitten and all that.

    I got their email too :rolleyes: If you still want to sell books, there is a new site run by two Durham students, which we were told about via our uni department - iswapbooks.co.uk.
