I have always loved this idea - but I don't think it would do my carpet much good!!!

Bought a tub of Neutradol (shake and vac type stuff) from Home bargains the other day and inside it has templates for Santa's footprints.

I love this idea. When I was growing up we opened one presenton Xmas eve night - Mum always picked it from under the tree & it was always a jokey one.

I always get DD's new PJ's but a hamper is a great idea. I think I may do one for OH & myself too! I like the torch idea, I saw a lovely "Princess" torch in Asda the other day. I will add reindeer food to the hamper - was going to do this anyway.
Melon78 - lush currently have chocolate santa's in. I picked one up yesterday for DD's bath - she is only 4 & loves Lush, I only went in at her request as I was given a hat box full for my birthday in Sept.
I also like the DVD idea, although I don't know when we would fit this in on Xmas eve unless we opened the hampers quite early...
OH's & mine can have new PJ's, something alcoholic, something chocolatey, a takeaway menu (tradition on Xmas eve!), slippers (actually the girls can have slippers in theirs too), lush for me & some nice shower gel for OH (he does not do baths!)
I am all excited thinking about this.

I got my torches in Asda, £2 each one toy story and one Cars.

Really like your idea of a hamper for you and OH. I was going to bung a couple of bits for him in with the stuff for the boys but I could do him his own, he deserves it for putting up with me ;)

I read it somewhere or other, I was going to add food colouring to some granulated sugar and make my own coloured sugar, do you think that would be ok?

Or you could use 100's & 1000's or cake sprinkles - ASDA have some glittery tubes of cake decorations for 60p.

I got a couple of Xmas books from Red House for my monsters!

Another thing I am putting in the basket is the certificates for the stars I've named for my boys on http://www.freenameastar.com/register.php. Laminated the certifictaes so they'll last longer than 5 minutes!

rainmac - if you look on one of the free santa letter sites there's a list of printable christmas stories and there's one about a Christmas Star.
I've altered my one a bit to make it more personal and include the name of the star. Not sure now how to print it out.......have to consult my printer and see what it does. It's a bit basic so I'll probably end up adding a few images and printing it out on coloured paper. I've printed out the 'name a star certificate' on sort of parchment paper like a scroll and I'm covering a kitchen towel middle with silver paper decorated with stars.............might put the story inside as well.
I did put this on another thread (I think).........can't remember where now though......
