Not sure where I read it but after I've cooked the roast and the apple pie I will switch off the cooker and open the oven door and let the heat out of the kitchen through the house - not sure how much it will actually heat the house but trying everything to delay putting the heating on for another month!
quote]
In the long run , the direct heat from the open door might perish the rubber seals around the overn doors. (Well that's what it says in my manual about why not the leave the door open when you're griling!)
My Gran says they used to put a big metal tin in the oven once the roast was done, and close the door. Once you'd finished your dinner, the water was hot enough from left over heat to do the dishes! That's save on your gas bills..!0 -

Thanks everyone for making me feel a bit less idiotic!
Anyway I have already failed with my new resolution not to run around like a headless chicken! In the past few days I have been really busy with training courses and updating teaching resources and stuff - in work by 7am:eek: ! I have also took on a new tutee - thats 6 per week now - phew!It is alot of extra planning but its great coming home every day with my £25 to put in the OP pot.
I have managed to get to nationwide and make an OP of £240 - so I have reached my new target of £1000/month this month.:T
I will update sig when it shows online. But this month was always going to be easy with spare funds sat in my current acount. Now my challenge is to save up enough to make just as big an OP in November. Feeling really motivated though - bring it on!:j
Today I've done my time at school, and I also do anything extra I can thats paid (I get £100 /month for running breakfast club, and free lunch and £2 per day for doing lunch duty) and I've taught my new tutee and put the money in pot.
I have had a NSD taking in a flask and HM biscuits, and I might see if I can persuade myself to do some promotion work now - just an hour!
Tomorrow I was thinking of biking to work (only 5 miles) which I normally do a few times a week but have you seen the weather? (This is what my hair would look like for sure!)
So I might just have a NSD and go in early again - making myself indespensible at work is part of my OP strategy I suppose! And then do some promotion work after work to even out the income/savings balance!
Keep up the good work everyone!
PS - Don't know how anyone does this with children? I find just organising myself to save / earn the pennies is hard nevermind organising others - hats off to you!!:A15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Life is always full with or without children! In all cases there are things that don't quite get done when you wish.
BTW: Good book is "Getting Things Done" - add to your Xmas list?
Well done on the progress and recording it to help motivate you and us.0 -

Sound like time management? I'm ok at time management I guess its just time I don't have enough of!!!
Today I just plan to get through the day really - having a nsd and doing the normal extras - breakfast club, lunch duty, and getting an extra free sarnie to have tonight before meetings going on til 9pm! phew!
Between the two meetings I will try to get all planning and tutoring planning for next week completed. This will hopefully mean next week I can do more promotion work after school instead of school work.
I have volunteered for overtime in the supermarket this weekend, next weekend and in the school holidays. It not worth me doing too much of this as the pay is rubbish but its nice to have a little garenteed extra in my pay packet!

Have I got this right Shopgirl - that you are a teacher too?
I suppose after uni I always had to work two or three jobs to pay the bills and get rid of debts but after that was sorted in 2005 I've just carried on and used the surplus for savings and now paying off the mortgage. I know so many young teachers with big mortgages working two jobs! Its quite sad as I know sometimes I am not as smily and enthusiastic in the classroom if I have been working the night before but I do try to not let it affect my performance - I've given up my weekday evening shifts in the supermarket for that very reason!
Some of my jobs are dead easy - I'm always on the look out for these! Breakfast club £7/hr and all I do is talk to the children and play games! Tutoring I always really enjoy as I love my subject.
For me its definately all about motivation - If I'm motivated I seem to achieve so much more - hence the diary! I went through a few months were I lost the plot a bit and spent thousands(on a new bathroom, it wasn't so bad - it will add value to the house I guess) so I needed to get my focus back.
Yesterday I managed to get a lot of work completed at school, and then did my 5 hours in the Supermarket so no chance to post yesterday.
Today I'm going to do my promotion work (2 hrs), maybe call into the allotment and get some fresh air and do some weeding, and then 8 hrs in supermarket. Its a nsd - I've packed up my lunch and tea, and I found a pound last saturday which I speedily collectedso I will treat myself to something lovely from the choc machine!!
My OP has made my mortgage balance drop (just) under 130K so I am very happy to be making progress again!
I have totally calmed down my texting and have been sending more emails and switching off my phone in the evening- I was spening £50 /month PAYG:eek: but now I reckon it will be under £10 per month! Bearing in mind I have got rid of my ridiculous costs, after putting £500 into my reg saver I should have about £200 to start my November overpayment with so very encouraged! I guess December/Jan will be the tough months - presents all bought but its the parties and taxis etc. Maybe I'm too obsessed if I'm saying humbug already!
Enjoy the weekend everyone!:j15/5/12 Paid off Mortgage 1 (£220k) Bought Dream House:www: Dec 13 - Mortage 2 -£116,508. 15/7/18 Mortgage Free Again :j

Yes indeedy! I'm a teacher - Science is my subject what about you?
It certainly sounds like you have a lot planned for this weekend...I'm looking at doing some Christmas shopping. Hopefully I can get it all done quick smart - so all of my pennies in December are for mulled wine and mince pies!;)
well done with all of your 'extras'! You definately inspire me...:TMBNA - [STRIKE]£7068.60 [/STRIKE] £7060.00 Egg - 1422.35 A&L - [STRIKE]£249.32[/STRIKE] £215.00Loan - £13279.50 :rolleyes:0 -
